Even though I live in Minnesota I only visit the Mall of America every couple of years. It is a great place to shop with lots of variety. Honestly I think it would take a couple of days atleast to try to cover the entire Mall. It gets really crowded on the weekends.

Really neat seeing an amusement park in the center of the mall. There is also an aquarium, in addition to all the restaurants and shops. There is also a Lego store with amazing Lego creations. Lots of walking and walking - wear comfortable shoes. Several stores that have Minnesota items for sale.

As former Minnesota residents in the 1990's, we visited the Mall of America on the second day of its opening and milled through the crowded hallways with about 100,000 other eager gawkers to have a look at the biggest mall in the U.S.

During a family visit back to the Midwest this April, we returned once more. This time it was to take our teenagers to see the epic mall and it seemed just as crowded as it had all those years ago.

The mammoth parking ramps were jammed with cars and attendants trying to find places for them to park. We waited nearly 20 minutes in traffic just to get in and drove around another 10 looking for a spot.

Once inside the mall, it was wall-to-wall people. Imagine a mall two days before Christmas combined with a Six Flags amusement park on a summer day and you'll get the picture. The long hallways were difficult to navigate and the amusement park area was mobbed with long lines for all the rides.

Granted, the sheer amount of people was likely due to the fact that it was snowing & sleeting in April and that it was a Saturday as well. But still...

However despite the teaming crowds, our teenagers loved it. They went on the rides, shopped till they dropped and probably would have stayed all night had their weary parents not insisted on leaving by dinner time.

All in all, if you're in Minnesota, then a stop here is manditory. It's kind of like Wall Drug, Mount Rushmore, or the World's Largest Ball of Twine: You have to see it just to say you've done it.

In the end it really was a fun time, but ultimately it's still just a really big mall with a LOT of people, so plan your visit wisely. A sunny Tuesday in June might work out better than a snowy Saturday in April.

There is so much to do at the Mall of America. There is a great variety of dining establishments. Of course there is also shopping galore. It's a great place to get your walking in. Didn't utilize the amusement park, but it sure sounded like the kids were having fun.
