Cathedral caves is only accessible a few hours a day so make sure you check tide times before you visit. When you arrive expect to pay $5 each to access the beach, a fee that came as a surprise to us. It is basically one big cave which you can walk through from one side to the other, however there are plenty of nooks and crannys to explore. Worth a visit if you are down in the Catlins, though not the highlight of our trip.

The Catlins are unquestionably beautiful. I enjoyed my time throughout. Cathedral Caves were a real highlight. It's really one of nature's great creations. The caves are beautiful and mysterious. The beach they reside along is quite powerful.

It's definitely worth a visit. Be sure to check with a nearby i-Site for tide times. My suggestion is to avoid arriving too close to the rising tide, as it will limit your visit or prevent it altogether. Take some time there and enjoy it.

I didn't really have a sense of how big these caves were going to be. I was blown away! Arrived about 30 minutes before low tide and there was some water in the caves, but no problem. Nice walk through the bush and beautiful views as well. Must see in the Catlins!

$5 per head and a pleasant walk down to the beach through the forest.
The caves are interesting - but not hugely so. Quite picturesque though.
