excellent position on the seaside. Inspite of the great number of guests, the stay was comfortable. Very good restaurants with a great variety of food although a bit expensive. friendly place to stay.

We decided to try Oman and more specifically the resort " known collectively as "Barr Al Jissah Resort" which comprises of three different hotels situated close enough to form a resort, each one offers a slightly different style. However the main one I am going to talk about is the Al Bandar, it is the middle one of the three, and offers more activities, restaurants and seems to be the hub of things, which we like, the reception is impressive as are all the public areas in fact the hotel is immaculate, the service staff are very polite and willing to help you as long as your request is possible, still amazes me what some people seem to think is acceptable.
We stayed room and breakfast, and chose our places to eat each night, the selection of restaurants vary from Italian, tapas, al tandoor, and a fish restaurant within the al Bandar hotel. We tried the it alien, which was very good, and the al tandoor which is the most popular buffet style offering, but it is not what you imagine when you use the word buffet, there is no reason to eat anywhere other than here every night, each night the theme changes although standard items are always present, so we experienced, lobster, fresh tuna, chicken, veal, sushi, lamb, all types of salads, curries, etc etc in fact amazing and we are critical regarding food, breakfast was also totally comprehensive, cooked, cold, smoked salmon, pastries, eggs all types, great!!!
The circles restaurant very relaxed re dress code so you can eat lunchtime at either your deck bed or the restaurant, the deck beds are laid out on a grassy area just in front of the marvellous beach where you can see the wonderful sea life whilst snorkelling, and the famous turtles coming upto lay there eggs, a man informs you of the turtle movements if you are interested just give your room number, the courtesy of the complimentary water served in a small box, together with your deck bed being prepared with coverings,
No evening entertainment so if you would like that this is not a resort for you. Just a piano bar where we tried happy hour two for one on several occasions,
Plenty of interesting people to make friends with, very cosmopolitan, Italians, Russians, Swiss, German, French, all local Omanis, and Indian, and residents from Dubai.
ROOM
very comfortable, spacious we have a sea view deluxe room, 2307 initially unsure of location, as sea view was somewhat distant and overlooking a very well tended garden area, but like all things in time a swift pre judgement can be wrong, as we realised due to the size of the building getting another room with a better sea view would of made for a fairly long walk to the common areas every day, so the compromise was good.
We eat every night and had a bottle if wine most nights which was about £26 and we pushed the boat out eat at " Sultanah" a guest Italian 2star Michelin chef night at al Husn which was £200 including wine etc. but generally the overall costs we within a budget of £200 per day for two for all drinks, food, a few small treats snorkel and flippers, dolphin trip well worth it at dive centre next door.
Overall would certainly come here again before choosing the caribean which has become tacky and spoilt, the months to avoid are end may to mid July as temps are in the 50's but all other months are great, especially Oct to Jan.

Room Tip: Because the site is vast, where ever you are there are up and downsides if you nearer the pools you...

The Shangrila resorts are about a 20 minute drive from the city and are a perfect little oasis getaway from Muscat. \the Al Waha resort is more catered to families with children, whilst the bulk of the restaurants are at the Al Bandar. I would recommend staying at the Al Hussein if you had a choice....whilst we were at the Al Bandar, the more intimate and private setting of the Al Hussein would be perfect for couples or those wanting a little more privacy.

The service is excellent at all 3 resorts. We arrived very early on the first day of our trip and were checked in with minimal fuss and ease. The room was comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was substantial and a wide variety to choose from. On a busy weekend it is important to head to the beach early to book a deck chair.

The Shangri La has 3 hotels that make up this single resort. Al Waha is for families with kids. We stayed in Al Bandar which is in the center of the resort and is where the bulk of the restaurants, bars and shisha were. Rooms are spacious and clean but as a whole the resort is perfect for 2-3 days max as it is so far from everything and food in the hotel is expensive.

Service by the pool and beach was great with added little touches like cold towels and small bowls of fruit given to everyone that were nice. First night we ate at Asia where the food was really quite tasteless. Second night we are at the Italian, which was great food but really slow service.

Been here a few times and always a great way to recharge the battery

From the moment we arrived we knew we had made the perfect accommodation choice. The check in was quick and easy and we were guided to our room via a tour around the hotel.
The room was large, comfortable and super clean. The view spectacular.
The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable and if they don't have the answer right away, they will work hard to find one quickly.
We stayed at the Husn hotel and went to the private beach. So beautiful and relaxing, although some of the beach chairs/ umbrellas were too close to the neighbours making it a little awkward. But that's the only "complaint".
The service, the accommodation, the location - Everything here is spectacular!

Room Tip: Turn off the fan for the air conditioning at night as it's too loud and distracting.
