“Amazing”

Great hotel and excellent location. We just came back from a short break with our 1 year old baby and this is the perfect place for a summer escape in the middle east.
The weather was fab and the temperature much cooler than UAE or Qatar.
Breakfast was amazing! We would love to come back again.

Very disappointing visit. On arrival told only single beds, according to manager we were not the only guests to have that problem but it was not the hotels fault but the booking agent's!!
Our room was basic and no where near 5 star standard. The room had a musty smell which housekeeping said was coming from the drains in the bathroom. Bed linen was washed out and torn and had to be replaced and the fridge was not working and was not stocked.

We went to the Sultanah restaurant in the Al Husn hotel. Food was not very exciting but the service was good.

The only saving grace for this hotel were the views which are beautiful. Would not recommend this hotel to friends.

The location and facilities here are amazing! We stayed here for 3 nights in late August 2012, in Superior rooms in Al Waha. The room itself is very average - comfortable king bed with a nice feather duvet, but the pillows were either pancake-flat feather pillows or rock-hard polyester fibre behemoths! TV is an old-school tube, rather than a flat-screen LCD, and the bathroom is the usual toilet, shower cubicle and bathtub.

The pools, beach and lazy river are what put this resort ahead of other places in Muscat - worth it because that is where we spent most hours of the day (understandable when the temperature is 35*C and humid).

Service was acceptable overall - breakfast buffet in Samba was good but not outstanding, although the kid-level buffet table, with donuts, baked beans, etc. was a great idea! Other food outlets had nice food, but nothing exceptional.

Housekeeping was decidedly average. Every day, our room was cleaned and dirty towels removed, but not replaced. My husband had to call several times to get them to bring more towels! We asked for late check-out but couldn't get it, so got to use a "courtesy room" to shower and change before we left - only problem was the last people to use it had left their wet towels, dirty bathrobes and snotty tissues littered all over the bathroom and bedroom! We sorted ourselves out, but it was a little disappointing!

Overall, very nice and a nice change from our usual Dubai Madinat Jumeirah breaks!

This was my third stay in this hotel, once in Al Bandar (with one baby) and twice (with two small children) in Al Waha. The fact that we keep going back says it all.

The service is excellent. The facilities - lazy river, splash pad, beach, watersports, large pools - are brilliant for children. The hotel has a "healthy menu" for children alongside the usual kids' fare of hot dogs, burgers, sausages, fish fingers and nuggets.

My tips would be:
1) Check in advance if facilities such as lazy river are going to be open as the hotel seems to use the summer period as a chance to clean / maintain them, which can cause disappointment.
2) If you're staying in Al Waha as a family of 3 or 4, consider taking a one-bed suite. You can use the double sofa bed in the living room for 1 or 2 children, and also can fit an extra bed into that living room, giving adults the master bedroom, bathroom and balcony. It's a more spacious option than taking two of the basic rooms or even the "family" room (which is two of the 32 sq metre basic rooms).

My only quibble was the hotel limo (BMW, Audi) that was sent to meet us at the airport only had two seatbelts in the back, so one of us had to travel with no seatbelt, which was appalling, really. Same on the return trip. Sort it out!

If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Oman, though, for leisure, with children, I really recommend this hotel. It is terrific value for money, especially if you book a package through an agent like Oman Air Holidays.

Room Tip: Consider the one-bedroom suites - a lot more space for not a lot more money.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The resort property is huge, and very pretty and the staff is extremely attentive and accommodating.
The Rooms; we stayed in Al Waha. In our opinion, the rooms are overpriced for what you get. The rooms are quite dated. The TV is a 19 inch tube TV, the shower is small and not 5 star quality. The toilet, when it would flush, would stick open and perpetually flushing water. Then again we were just happy to get it to actually flush. The bed was moderately comfortable, more 4 star than 5 star quality. To top it off my nightstand was the home of an ant farm. I found my tea cup filled with ants, and the next morning, there were ants crawling all over my mobile. So while not a terrible room, just not 5 star quality nor worth the price.

Dining: the first night we dined in Samba. The staff was attentive and knowledgable, and the food was presented well and in a timely manner. The food was pretty good, but nothing spectacular. The second night we dined at Fayrouz, the restaurant in the Souk area of the resort. This meal was fabulous. The food was divine, the service was above and beyond, (with special recognition to our server Aziz, who was extra attentive and accommodating without being overbearing). We highly recommend dining at Fayrouz! We had breakfast both days at the buffet at Samba. The choices were plentiful and the food was very good. The live cooking stations were well run, and tasty. The service at the breakfast buffet was excellent, especially since at some buffets one can be easily forgotten. The staff at breakfast were always pleasant, and quick to clear your plates to make room for more.

Pool and Lazy River: The Lazy River was our favorite part of the resort. We drifted up and down the river again and again. It is such a great way to relax. The pool is also lovely. Unfortunately the pool at Al Bandar was closed so we only got to see the pool at Al Waha. The pool temperature was perfect. The service around the pool was excellent. They pool side staff set up our lounges, and brought us a cooler with ice cold water (what an excellent touch)! While we were lounging pool side, they came around with ice cold wash clothes, also an excellent touch.

Dive Center: We went diving with Extra Divers, the dive center on the resort. The team at Extra Divers are awesome! Esther and the team were extremely helpful and pleasant. I emailed them a week before we arrived and booked our dives. They were so well organized and thorough. We enjoyed a day of diving with this extremely professional dive center!

Transportation: The resort has an excellent transport system to get your around the resort, which is great. We never had to move our car.

Check in/Check out: the staff during check in and check out were fantastic!

All in all this resort is what it is because the staff is so amazing. Every staff member we came across was so pleasant, helpful and attentive. We weren't impressed with our room, however the staff made up for that. Renovations and updating (and exterminating) to the Al Waha rooms would make this a true 5 star resort.

We stayed at the Shangri La Al Bandar recently and were somewhat disappointed at first. We were told that the pool and part of the beach were closed during our time. What they didn't tell us was that the Piano bar and some of the other bars were closed too. They should tell westerners what happens at Ramadan. The whole place sort of closes down but not quite. Whatever the case we were a little annoyed at first and even decided to cut our stay. However after a few days and nights, what with the fabulous staff, we slowly but surely fell in love with the place. The first dinner we had in the Capri court. Here wine was allowed with the dinner And what a dinner that turned out to be, really first class. The next night was at the Bait Al Bahr, here too, one is allowed wine with dinner. This again was such a delight, food superb and the staff excellent. Our waiter, a gentleman from the Philippines was particularly good and really professional. I like a man who serves the ladies first and treats them with such politeness, not always the case in certain parts of the world. The third night we had dinner at the Sultanah. Here only kids older than 12 are allowed ours are a little older. Here again wine served at dinner although not outside on the terrace which has a wonderful view of the resort below. Food was pricey and we felt, not as good as the other two.
The lazy river was fun, not too exciting though. We wanted to play table tennis and there is a table outside near the pool, however the ball was broken I happened to be in reception in the evening and asked the concierge to organize a new one, nothing was done and so I asked again, again nothing until the next evening, almost two days, poor kids. They could fix the table too it's a little crippled. Kids wanted to play billiards so we wandered over the "Souk" here again sort of closed and when someone did come we payed 5 dollars for half an hour.
Would I stay there again? Yes most certainly.

It was our second trip to this wonderful place. We loved it again!
They made some good changes, now pool is very nice heated, but river is a bit colder, so we loved to swim in pool a lot and river was a good way to refresh.
We loved staff at the beach - they had improved services! We enjoyed activities ( earth day, volleyball, football etc). Daniel is doing a very good job! Staff remembered what and where we like, because I got up around 6 am and had an early swim in the sea.
We had a one night, when party at the pool side finished very late and already started very early, so that night our sleep quality was not so good.
Since Milan is away from Simba, quality of services is a bit lower, thats way we chose to have dinner at Al Tanoor, choice for food there was as good as last year at Simba.
We loved dolphin tour!!
And gym is very well equipped.
