Four of us stayed for a couple of nights during June and, although the weather wasn't great, the location, hotel and service compensated for the lack of sunshine.
The pool area was a great asset during the poor weather. The large rooms were extremely comfortable and enabled relaxation during the afternoon.
The food was of a very high standard - don't miss out on the sea food chowder! The method of ordering dinner in your room gives you plenty of time to consider the choices without feeling rushed.
I think the review by CRD76 must be by an ex-AA hotel inspector not a guest determined to enjoy a very well presented and managed hotel!!

On a positive note the location and warm welcome by Matt were bonuses, we felt your dining room was tastefully decorated and the bedroom we had was both large, overall nicely furnished and we appreciated having two large beds and everywhere was clean.
We had booked using a wowcher deal, don't expect the referred to complimentary cream tea though as this is not included- not something I am really fussed about but a trifle mean Keith, should we have had half a room too or half a towel since we paid via wowcher?

Our room was extremely warm,we had terrific 20 degree weather throughout our stay and you cannot influence the direction of the wind (there was no breeze entering our room) but when we asked reception for a fan, we expected something more effective than a 6inch desk fan which was totally ineffective - at night although the outside temperature had dropped to a cool 11 degrees, our room was still in the late teens, we did not feel comfortable leaving the patio door open for various reasons, so in effect the room was without fresh air circulation, we both had 2 nights of broken sleep and we left more tired than when we arrived.

Patio furniture detracts, inexpensive white plastic chairs are not in keeping with star rating, indeed the mixture of outdoor furniture was poor.
We felt the patio/terrace was not very private and would suggest increased screening between rooms, I appreciate the facility to sit outside your room in a hotel is a luxury and not offered in every establishment, but as a feature we feel it could be improved, fortunately we did not have other (noisy guests) to detract and should the outside coffee shop have had guests, our outside experience would have been far from private as we could easily see that seating area and vice versa.
The net curtain covering the patio door quite frankly needs addressing, the fixing again detracts from the room with the net curtain dropping in the middle and looking like a shambles.

The room safe was not secured to a wall, I would have used the safe and asked how to use it, but considering it could have been picked up and carried out by a thief, there was no point - there's no point saying doors can be left open in Devon when the in room literature directs you to the Hotel act which limits claims to £50 per item etc.......makes you feel slightly insecure.

I appreciate the hotel has undergone a £2 million pound refit but feel the bathroom is not befitting an establishment in their price arena. Firstly the toilet was not secured sufficiently, the bathroom top needs changing, it is clearly an inexpensive old item demonstrated by the peeling cardboard/chip board backing seen when using the bath, the bath tub is a cheap plastic which flexes when stood on, the taps look dated and need changing to a modern mixer type and the chipped light screen needs changing, also the sealant in the bathroom needs replacing.
If you are going to offer complimentary toiletries, I would recommend having higher quality items with better quality dispensers that worked better, especially as the going rate is £230 per night in high season.

The lack of WIFI in the bedroom is disappointing, however I found the workaround of free WIFI in the lounge area not acceptable, when returning to the hotel at around 10.30-11pm, the lounge area was in complete darkness as was the bar area and reception, I felt as if I was staying over with family as opposed to a hotel offering modern facilities, the outside areas are also in need of urgent low level lighting, I found the front of the hotel to be in almost complete darkness, the parking area was not much better, the side entrance was not pointed out when receipted at the hotel on our first night so was unaware this route afforded better lighting, the in room children's torch is not a substitute.
Again the non attended reception area at night and the option not to be able to purchase cold beverages non alcoholic or otherwise was disappointing, in room refrigerators could perhaps alleviate the issue.

The hotel does have a good view of NT Soar Mill Cove and the seascape as does the dining and lounge area, however if your room is not assigned a table near the window at breakfast you will not benefit from a view. The beach is a good 25 minutes downhill and longer back.

Did not make use of the new indoor salt water pool but the room and pool large and new if rather hot, not sure why other reviewers have said its the size of a jacuzzi, simply not the case.

We felt the hotel does not offer value for money, at a wowcher rate( although we upgraded to a sea view as the other non sea view rooms do not have much of a view of anything) it is more bearable but considering the broken sleep, we would not consider returning, however I am told tat 80% of the bathrooms have been updated, shame we had a non upgraded room when the hotel didn't look full, maybe because we had a wowcher offer ?
The included breakfast is fine, nothing special or cooked remarkably well with plates being to small on both mornings-food being placed on top of one another is avoidable, the fish option looks like basic frozen fillets, however you may have breakfast in your room with no charge, we tried in on the second morning at it arrived promptly and was a more enjoyable experience, so a bonus of soar mill.
Not the worst and not the best, just slightly overpriced with easily fixable items which cannot wait for winter refurbs at this price point, sorry.

Room Tip: Sea view all the way unless you like looking at car parks or grass banks

great hotel in stunning location five mins walk from beach and coast path! dining room has large wall of window overlooking the cliffs and sea. All the staff were polite, caring and nothing was too much trouble. The only fault we could find was the menu which was less than inspiring to be honest! We thought it was a bit 'dated' and could do with some jazzing up! The vegetarian options were poor and it wouldnt have taken much to improve with a little thought that even vegetarians need protein! The melt in the middle chocolate fondant dessert was very nice tho!

Room Tip: i guess a room with a sea view would be nice but it wasnt a prob for us as we walked a lot during th...

Thank you very much for your review, I’m so pleased you enjoyed your holiday! Since your stay we have updated our evening menu, so I’m sure you will be impressed with the changes we have made. Our head chef is always happy to do something off menu, if it helps with your dietary requirements. I have to agree the Chocolate Fondant is truly delightful.

We arrived on June 1st as we were attending a wedding in the area. Booked through wowcher. We stayed for two nights in room 19 rosemary rose, but could of easily stayed for the week. The location is stunning. Rooms are huge and clean. The only problem was our toilet seat was faulty but these things happen. The bed was very comfortable however was a small double, I think a slightly larger bed would of been nice. Especially as it is such a spacious room. Breakfast was lovely. Great quality! The assistant manager working on the desk was very helpful and friendly. The only downside was the limited lighting outside around the hotel. We were visting family so both nights we returned back about 12pm. It was quite spooky as the hotel is quite isolated and parking in the car park walking down to the front door down the gravel slope was difficult. Other than that it was a lovely break. We fell in love with the area and plan to holiday down here next year and would consider this hotel.

I’m delighted that you enjoyed your short break with us, we have since fixed the broken toilet seat. All of our garden view rooms are of a very good size; and have either a 5tf Queen size bed or 6ft king size bed. We are limited to the amount of lights we can have on outside during the evening, due to our location we cannot cause to much light pollution, on a clear evening the sky looks wonderful. I can’t wait to welcome you back.

Other reviews do a greay job covering just how wonderful this hotel is: its location and facilities are marvellous. But the true test of a hotel is how it deals with problems and the staff here were excellent. When we had a problem with our room, the staff managed the problem extremely well and without question. Really great service. My family had a wonderful couple of days, and left very happy and relaxed.

Room Tip: if you are booking the sea view rooms, room 18 isn't the best: it's mostly a view of the hed...

We went in large three-generation family party. It was the perfect choice. Public rooms have wonderful sea views, as do a lot of the bedrooms. Children loved the beach (pretty cove about 10 minute easy walk through stunning National Trust land) tennis court, playground and, most of all, great pool. In 4 day stay, didn't get round to putting green, bikes, games room. Its location makes it safe for quite small children to enjoy freedom (we had seven of 8 and under). Restaurant has good atmosphere and serves excellent food, and children's menus healthy and delicious. There is a very welcome can-do ethos and the lack of chintz and bossy rules was perfect. Love Farley!

Room Tip: If you can, have a sea view room. But garden view rooms have furnished patios too.
