This area is about as remote as you can get in Northern Michigan... yet with nearby access to Traverse City. I have skied and hiked this area over 30 years. It is quiet and fairly representative of the boreal forests we have in this area of the midwest. The lakes are small but pretty. It is worth the time to visit if you're seeking solitude with an interesting mix of hardwoods and firs. The trails are well marked. A great getaway from the crowds.

Beautiful spot to go for a walk, comune with nature or even a drive. Unspoiled area.

We biked with our 17yo and 8yo. The bike trail is already becoming grown up as this particular area is one of the many cuts that have been made. There is a lake that we swam in after our bike ride to cool off - beautiful blue green water and perfect temp. The soil around most of it is very sticky clay so we went to the far side where the soil has more dirt/sand. We were there for hours and never saw a soul - lovely excursion if you want to get away from the more crowded areas.

My girlfriend and I stayed there May 20th -22nd 2011. We had a great time. There wasnt a lot of wildlife there except for one porcupine that lives near the parking lot. Unfortunately the fishing was kind of slow, most likely due to the weather and it being early in the season. We did a lot of hiking and there was a lot of great scenery to go along with it. I would recommend SLQA to anyone who likes to "rough it".
