“worth the driving trip”
Reviewed June 5, 2014

My daughter-in-Law and I stayed at this B&B on May 16th and 17th 2014. We drove from Wisconsin around Chicago instead of taking the boat across. We left at 5:00AM, and it was a rainy morning. There was alot of constructions and missed one of the turnoffs. After alot of driving we arrived there, and it sure was worth the drive. The house was built around 1884-1887. There are no fireplaces, and was built with a coal furnice and indoor plumbing. The reason for no fireplaces is that the people who built it had a house burn down because of a fireplace fire.

The house is beautifully furnished in the right period. The host, owners Cathy and Ron are friendly and very knowledge about the house, and surrounding area.

There are some small towns around that have interesting history, and places
to see. There are restored houses in the town of WhiteHall that are so worth seeing for a very reasonable price.

The service and breakfasts were impeccable and there is not one thing that we felt was not done for us.

We are thinking of returning next year.

Thank you Ron and cathy for such a wonderful get away.

Room Tip: all the rooms seem great. Our room had the original very large bathtub, with the original plumbing...

This was my very first experience with a bed and breakfast. After a business deal went south I had to spend a few days in Michigan before my flight home. So, after spending a few nights in hotels I decided to drive up the coast and treat myself to a bed and breakfast. I spoke with Cathy who answered my questions, and even rearranged her schedule to accommodate me on short notice. The house was full but she had me stay in a cottage less than a mile away which was a one bedroom attached home with a full kitchen. Her house is a wonder to see. Old world craftsmanship with original windows and warm woodwork. The cottage I occupied is clean, well restored and appointed with comfortable furniture. When I called with a very minor issue, Ron showed up within five minutes and fixed the problem.

Cathy gave me ideas of what to see in the area and even lent me a map book to get around. The neighborhood is quiet with sidewalks and mature trees that just beg you to walk around the block just one more time. The small town offers eating, performance art, shopping etc. so you won't get bored and the docks/parks are beautiful to stroll by.

Breakfast was perfect with fruit, yogurt bowls, blueberry coffee cake and a quiche to die for. Probably the best part of breakfast was talking with the four couples that were staying at the main house. We had a relaxed conversation before, during, and after breakfast. Getting to know the guests was as enjoyable as getting to know Cathy and Ron.

Ron has a boat that he charters so you might want to call ahead and line something up. I kind of wish I had done that, but I didn't give them any notice.

I felt I had gone home for a visit not just rented a room for the night. I'd recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone.

Room Tip: The cottage had a kitchen, so if you want to make lunch and dinner rather than go out every night th...

One of the best B&B's we have been too ever, from the warm welcome of our 2 night stay to a great goodbye everything was beyond our expectations. The Suite was great and the bed was even better. Would love to see the area in the summer when everything is at it's splendor.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, upgrade to the suite for the experience of the air driven claw foot tub...

Everything at White Swan Inn was wonderful! Cathy was very accommodating when we couldn't get there until after 10pm to check in. The room we were in (Jasmine Room) was spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and different each day. We enjoyed the coffee, tea, and snacks that were available too.

Even in winter weather, we found things to do. We toured the Silversides Submarine & Museum, went to the West Michigan Symphony at the beautiful Frauenthal Theatre and had dinner at a great restaurant that Cathy suggested.

I highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast!

Even in the worst winter Michigan has seen in decades we enjoyed our stay at White Swan. The beds were comfortable and rooms cozy. We appreciated all the little extra amenities (robes, coffee, tea, cookies, chocolate). Wonderful attention to detail that didn't go unnoticed. Breakfast was delicious.

Room Tip: Owners do have a cat that roams the house. He was very friendly and didn't bother us however if...

We are pleased that your getaway was enjoyable. Thanks for mentioning our cat, Max. When taking a reservation by phone we always let guests know that we have a cat in residence. If a guest is hyper-sensitive to cats, this is not the place to stay. It is important to us that guests are comfortable. And on the flip-side, we have many guests that are thrilled when they learn that we have a house cat.
