“Good for the area”

First I should say that this is one of the nicest looking hotels in Whitehill. We stayed overnight while visiting Michigan Adventure. The hotel was clean but a bit over priced for what you get. During our stay someone hit the smoke alarm and we had to be evacuated for a while. There were people running up and down the halls in the middle of the night. It was very hard to sleep. The breakfast was average but nice. We asked for an extra blanket and pillow and never got it. All in all it is an ok property with bad management. I would not stay here again. Also, dont ask for a wake up call, you wont get it....

We have had to make a number of trips to the Whitehall/Montague region this spring and summer, and the Best Western Whitehall seems the best in the area. The hotel is conveniently located near the highway, the reservation process easy, and the hotel staff helpful and accomodating. We have not used the pool, but the rooms have been clean and quiet despite the location. In general, the Best Western Whitehall is a fine basic hotel: three stars as a general rating, but four stars for the available hotel accomodations in the area.

For the third time in recent weeks, the Whitehall Best Western experienced problems with the chlorination release system at the pool. This malfunction caused a 3 hour evacuation of the entire hotel at 10 PM.

Not sure about anyone else, but I do not book a room with the hopes of being rousted out and spending several late night hours standing around in a parking lot, being attacked by mosquitos.

What did we receive for our hassle, inconvenience and frustration? An offer to check out a little later the next morning. Wow.

If the Whitehall Best Western cared about providing an excellent experience for their guests, this issue would not have happened a second or third time. The fact that this is a recurring problem shows me exaclty where management's priorities are. Cheaper and easier to offer extended checkout vs actually repairing the defect.

I'll never be back, no matter what, I'd sleep in the street before giving this place another dime. Heck, I was a paying customer and pretty much was forced into that anyway.

Highest possible recommendation to avoid the Whitehall Best Western.

  • Liked — The internet worked.
  • Disliked — Being evacuated from 10PM to 1AM over a problem thet continues to happen.

If you are looking for a place to rest after a day at Michigan Adventure then this is the hotel for you. The hotel is at most a ten minute drive from the park. This hotel was built in late 2000. The rooms are tastefully decorated, very clean, and spacious. We even had plenty of room for our air mattress. The front desk staff was friendly, helpful, and accomodating. The complimentary continental breakfast in the morning made it convenient to grab a quick bite before heading home. The next time we go back to Michigan Adventure I won't have to look for a hotel. I'll go right back to the Best Western in Whitehall.

This is a very nice hotel. One minor problem - their computer had us coming in the following day even though my reservation and their paper copy had the correct day. They had to make a quick switch but they were able to accomodate even though they were pretty booked. We had to wait 15 minutes for the room because they were just finishing cleaning the carpets on that floor. The carpet was slightly damp the first night. After that everything was great. The pool area is nice. It is located right at the highway exit and is a 10 minute drive to Michigan's Adventure Amusement and Water Park. The breakfast area was extremely busy the first morning but it just happened to be when several other families arrived. I noticed later there were no lines and several tables available. We had no waiting for breakfast the second morning though. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

This is a nice Hotel to stay at if you have small children. My husband and I with our two young boys stayed there for a little 'weekend getaway'. The rooms were nice and very clean. The location is very nice and safe. The kids enjoyed the pool and the adults enjoyed the hot tub (on a cool Oct. eve). I would definitely recommend this hotel for the average traveler.

It was a very nice hotel in a very nice location. Even though it was near the freeway, we couldn't hear the cars and trucks because it was blocked by a row of trees. the rooms were comfortable, (not enough pillows) bring your own. The pool area was nice and so was the whirlpool. Did not hear noise from the rooms next door. The breakfast was very good. I felt the staff was very accomodating to us. The parking lot was small especially when the hotel was booked. The manager let us park on the grass. The location was great, five minutes from Michigan adventure and five minutes from whitehall. the dunes were only 30 minutes away. I would stay here again.
