We were in the area for the night, staying a mile up the street, and saw that they had online ordering. We placed our order at 11:20pm (they close at 12 midnight). The order went through just fine and we received a confirmation email stating that the order would be ready by 11:45pm. Drove there to pick it up.
As we were walking into the lobby, at 11:30pm (got there early so we could have a drink while waiting), we received a call from the restaurant saying that our order was no good because they stopped serving sushi at 11:30pm. What? WHY did they accept the order online then, if they are not serving? Told the lady, who was in broken English, that we were walking in to the lobby and would speak to the staff there.
Told the bartender we were there for a pickup and we had just got a call saying sushi was unavailable, which she confirmed, and said we would like to order something else then. She told us the kitchen was closed since it was after 11:40pm now. Huh? We had ordered 20 minutes before, received an email confirmation, and actually walked in to the restaurant with lots of time to spare. After some huffing and puffing and loud noises from the kitchen, she came back to say they would make a one time exception for us.
The food came out 15 minutes later and was edible but not very good. After all that time wasted, and harassment by the location, the food was not worth it.
Caveat: I have lived in Troy, MI since I was 6 years old. 43 now. We used to go to Mon Jin Lau at least every other week growing up and it was always good back then (80's and 90's). not sure if this is a new owner or what the deal is, but service and food have gone way downhill.
