we had a party of six, all had different menu items, all wer very good. the best overall winner were the mussels in tomato/vodka sauce with the fresh hot garlic bread. it's only an appetizer, but could be a meal item. you have to try it if you like mussels, you will love em!

Granite City is a regional chain that is typically located in medium size midwest towns. They brew their own beer and also tend cook most of the food rather than "reheating" that you see in chains.

The food quality can be solid most of the time. They bake their own sourdough bread. It's great and can't stop eating it. The waffle fries with Granite City dip is also addictive. Their balance of their food tends to be heavy and creamy. If you want something that won't weigh you down for the rest of the day, stay in the light fare column with salmon or a salad. This Granite City also has a pizza menu, which not all Granite Citys have. It's good.

On Sundays, they have a Brunch that runs until 2 or 3pm. It can be a wait for a table since it is a great deal and those that come definitely pack it in.

The beer is brewed onsite and I always go for the IPA. Join the mug club and you can collect points and get discounts.

So what's left? Service! Depending on the server you get, it can vary greatly. The workers tend to move around a lot, but don't really get much done. Not sure why that is. Maybe they need to fix their processes. Sometimes the food comes out with the weirdest timing. I'm not sure if it's the kitchen or the wait staff that's causing the issues.

If you can overlook the service inconsistencies, this is a good place to have a nice meal.

Good location, just down the street on Big Beaver from The Somerset Collection. If you want to get out of the mall craziness and get away for a nice relaxing meal, go to Granite City. Extensive menu so lots of choices, and everything is good. Shrimp tacos (spicy!) and Korean tacos are a favorite, although the menu offers many other items not in any way "mexican." The service has been excellent both times we've gone. Strategically placed TVs allow you to keep track of sports news without feeling like a sports bar. Lighting is low and booths are comfy and private. Atmosphere and decor overall is similar to a PF Changes, although you also have the micro brew vats in the background for added cache. My husband loves the beer selection.

I enjoyed the sampler but I wasn't crazy about the food. The Asian Glazed Shrimp were slightly overcooked and the sirloin was very salty. The beer sampler was a great deal. I enjoyed the Stout, Wheat and the Northern Light Lager.

If you start with brewed-on-site beer it is hard to go wrong. While I enjoyed the meal, the place has a feel that is just to sterile or contrived. Typical no-character chain I guess. Having said that, the beer was good and the food not bad either. I had he prosccutio flatbread pizza - it was an excellent starter (plan on sharing it). Our waiter rec'ed the metloaf - so I went for it. The presentation was great - thick cut of meat on top of texas toast topped with moundn of onion strings. Tasted great, as did mashed potatoes. And a lot to eat. The menu has something for everyone. Somehow we ran up a $50 each bill (with tip) but that was several drinks included. PS They do not take reservations for under 10 - you could wait.
