Wow... Customer service is not part of this hotels vocabulary or belief system. Upon arrival I unpacked and relaxed; in an outdated carpet stoned room. No worries, until I called the front desk to let them know that the refrigerator had leaked all
Over the tv, dresser cabinet and floor. Because maintenance was called and would be working in the room I asked for a new or some type of compensation.
They told me to come to the front desk, would give me a new room and a $30 voucher for their resturant. Excellent! I repacked and headed downstairs. All was good until I got to the new room
(428). This one had water collecting in the ceiling tiles. I was not going to call, unsted decided to tell them at check out.
That's when I met Tom....wow! Rude, confrontational, and not customer friendly. I told him of the situation (and that the voucher could not be uses because they do not serve food from 10-11, mind you check out is at 11).
When this was brought up he got even more cross stating "you people" in a hostile voice. Causing a scene infront of his front desk staff and other customers.
Upon walking out a gentleman approached and asked we what I thought of the situation. Then noting that Tom was out of line and he had a similar experience.
There are plenty of choices in this beautiful area. My advise...stay away from this place!
P.S. The pool was also out of order...

We stayed at the Park Place Hotel for 5 days last week. It was an average 3 star hotel, but in such a great spot.

Upon check it, the receptionist, Emily, didn't really make me feel welcome. I was waiting at the front desk for a few minutes, and when she came out she just asked if I was checking in and what my name was. Not that she was rude, but I usually expect staff to greet their clients with a "welcome". Our room was ok, we were in the addition or annex part of the hotel with a view of the parking lot. No big deal as we didn't plan on staying in our room much. Only big complaint about our room was that when taking a shower, the water pressure and tempature changed every other minute! I think we figured out that it was a pump room issue, because it seemed to change when the elevators were in use.

We had drinks at the rooftop lounge one night which was nice, but it does seem like a local hot spot so I'd get there early because it's small and there is limited seating. There is another restaurant attached to the hotel that we didn't dine at. The pool is inside, or covered by a glass dome which we also didn't use.

When it comes to location in Traverse City, this place is so great. It's right downtown, and we were able to walk to the beach and to Front Street where there are a ton of cute shops and restaurants. When traveling to other beaches and golf courses, we were glad we didn't stay at the other hotels, as you'd need to drive to get anywhere. Oh, and parking is free!

We did interact with Laurie the housekeeper, Jane, and Kyle at the front desk who were all very helpful and very plesant, and I feel like I should mention them.

People staying here should realize it is a 3 star hotel, not the ritz. Overall, I think it's worth it's rating.

Room Tip: A few rooms had balconies which may be nice to sit outside in the summer. Ask for it.

Our dog sitter was unable to sit for us so we chose Park Place since they allow dogs. It was a great choice and we were able to walk to breakfast, lunch, and dinner downtown. Our room was more than adequate although it would have been nice to have a morning paper delivered to the door as many hotels offer. The TV was an old model but the picture was good. The wi-fi was free and the room had a refrigerator. We will stay here again.

After staying here for three nights I would advise people against it. Our room never got cleaned. Even though we would leave our room at 9 in the morning and return by 5 in the afternoon! We were told that there were no clean towels and would have to wait for these. We used hand towels as bath towels! We had booked a room with 2 sinks in the bath and were given a room with 1 sink! We were moved to another room for an extra 50 dollars a night to get the extra sink only to then find out that the new room had 1 sink. We were then told but at least it has a balcony! None of the coke machines on the floors had any products. They were empty for 250 a night this hotel is worth 50 a night at best!

We booked our stay WAY in advance for Cherry Festival festivities for a top price, of course, since its one of the biggest events of the year in TC. We've stayed in the Park Place before and liked it, however, I'm doubtful if it was the historic tower. The room was very small although updates were done such as the granite counter, bedding, etc. There's no actual "desk" if you need to work. Just a table near the window that's pretty small. I found the tub to be very old and in need of updating, but it was clean. We stayed for 4 nights and the room seemed to have some housekeeping issues as far as vacuuming and making the beds. It was really inconsistent. We're not picky, but the floor needed vacuuming having a toddler with us and the beds were perfect one day then the next looked like someone just came in and threw the covers up and tossed the pillows on the bed. Not a huge thing, but it looked as though they were more concerned with leaving the tip envelope in full view than making an effort on the room.

The workout room used by my husband was ancient. So if you're looking for modern equipment, you may want to keeping looking elsewhere.

Minerva's, the restaurant, was nice and the staff was so friendly to us.

The location is perfect if you're looking to be in the middle of it all. Everything, including the beach, is within walking distance from the hotel... shops, restaurants, activities.

Parking is free and vehicles ID'd with a tag in the window.

Overall, for the price, we think it was a bit extreme as far as cost for the a little better than mediocre keeping of the hotel. We spent $250/night on the weekend and $175 during the week. It's a big time of year, so I understand they can get away with it, but I think they need to improve the staff to match the "luxury" for Traverse City price.

I think if we do this again, we may look for a brand new Courtyard Marriott or something similar or try the other part of the hotel again (not historic... maybe that's why the rooms were so small). The location, as said before, is perfect if you're just looking for a nice place to hang your hat and enjoy what TC has to offer.

Room Tip: Try to avoid historic tower and research other part of the hotel for modern requirements.

After experiencing a terrible stay at the Grand Traverse Resort last year, we stayed at the Park Place Hotel and were highly satisfied with our experience. The service was terrific, particularly the housekeeping manager, the room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the location was convenient. I would encourage anyone to stay there, and we will definitely book another vacation at the Park Hotel, whenever we're in Traverse City. Definitely worth the money.

We showed up without a reservation after eight days of camping, hoping to find a place in downtown Traverse City so we could walk somewhere for dinner and breakfast. We'd looked a week before and found a $156 price online (through the Park Place website), and we were prepared to negotiate toward that price. The helpful desk clerk, however, offered us a $159 rate for the one night, so we took it in a heartbeat.

The room was a partial bay view meaning we could see Traverse Bay (of Lake Michigan) through the room's large side window (across the neighboring room's patio, admittedly, but the view was still pretty good). Our ninth-floor room offered a great vantage to see most of downtown Traverse City as well.

We asked the desk clerk for a recommendation for dinner, and he offered three pages of printed recommendations as well as highlighting his three favorites - all within walking distance.

The room was clean and well appointed. It was admittedly a bit small, as others have pointed out, but that's understandable in an older hotel. The bathroom was a bit dated but in keeping with the age of the hotel (the shower head was about 5.5' high and plastic but offered good water pressure).

The biggest problem we had was that we couldn't initially get into the room and had to take the elevator back down to the desk to be told that the door handle had to be pulled upward (not the typical downward) to unlock the door. Once we got that info, things worked perfectly.

We'd stay here again for a short stay but would probably go elsewhere if we were in own longer. It's one thing to splurge a bit for a night, but the hotel is a bit pricey.

Room Tip: Ask for a bay view (but be prepared to pay a bit extra for it)
