Mission Point is a great destination for a bike ride. It’s about 40 miles and if you stay on the outer roads on the peninsula you will have beautiful views of lakeshore , cottages, wineries and orchards. There are always a lot of bike traffic and for the most part people are site seeing and not in a hurry. One of the most beautiful rides I’m Michigan if not the whole US

At the northern tip of Old Mission Peninsula stands the lighthouse on Mission Point. It is well worth the drive starting inTraverse City. . Many visitors come to Old Mission Peninsula on wine tours at the many local vineyards or view cherry blossoms. The drive to the light house provides spectacular views of East and West bay, vineyards and orchards. The lighthouse does not charge an admission and is well.maintained and clean. There is a fee charged to climb up to the top and see the views of west bay and the non working lamp. On the grounds is a log cabin which is also.interesting to view. There is a sandy beach but no amenities except for two pit toilets. Bring your own food and water.

The Mission Point Light and the drive to it, north on the old mission peninsula, is very rewarding. We have done it many times. The light itself is atop a house like structure that overlooks a shallow area and a rocky beach. In 2017, the water is quite high, but in earlier years we were able to walk thru the water to an "island" about 1/4 mile away. The lighthouse is on the 45th meridian half way between the equator and north pole.

We were not able to go into the lighthouse due to a power outage on the peninsula but the lighthouse is cool, the grounds were pretty, and there is a small beach with access to the lake.
