A nice end to the winery stops along the peninsula. The view is fantastic. The old house in the woods is cool to see also.

It's a nice drive to end of the peninsula - and the lighthouse does not disappoint. Lovely setting and a small informational area within the lighthouse. Worth the time to drive out - and if you like wine tasting - lots of places to stop along the way.

To visit The Mission Point Lighthouse, out at the very tip of Mission Point Peninsula, here in Traverse City, Michigan, one needs the time that it takes to make the drive out to the lighthouse. It took my wife and I about 30-minutes to make the trip one way. Returning took us longer because we made a number of stops to see other attractions out on the peninsula as well as to eat a small meal out on the peninsula. You like, you are interested in historic lighthouses, or you are not. There is not much middle ground. My wife and I like them and we are very happy that we made the drive and experienced a sudden and challenging change in the weather. Suddenly the wind began to blow and the temperature began to drop suddenly. A fun experience. In our opinion the drive was well worth the time it took.

We took an afternoon in Sept to explore the Old Mission peninsula and were happy for it. There are many farms with roadside stands along the way. Be sure to jog to the actual village of Old Mission. There will be a small green sign and a sign for a post office as well. There is an old Inn, small community and nice small beach area. You can continue in a loop drive towards the lighthouse which is not far from here.

We recommend you go up the east side of the peninsula which eventually merges with the main road up the center then return on the west side through Bowers Harbor.

Beautiful drive once you pass the more residential areas which are themselves beautiful to take in. You'll see both bays at different points of the drive.

The lighthouse has a recently restored log cabin that is cool and the lighthouse uses volunteers to run it. You'll need to pay a small amount to go upstairs if you choose.

Interesting history and you can sense standing in the blustering wind with spray off the water what it was like in its hayday to live here and operate this lighthouse.

There is a gas station and grocer on the way back just before the turn off to Bowers Harbor that is a very well stocked grocer. We grabbed a coffee and snack here for the drive back to town. They offer local goods like cherries and jams, wines alongside GF and dairy alternatives in their general grocery section. Gas is priced same as in town.

Take layers of clothes, we were struck by how blustery the point was.

We were spending the day on the Mission Peninsula, sightseeing and wine tasting. Since it was a nice day and we had no particular schedule, we decided to drive to the tip of the peninsula to check out the Mission Point Lighthouse. We're glad we did!

There was ample, easy parking and the lighthouse was a short walk from the parking lot. It's a small building with a little museum that had an interesting history of the light keeper and some informative exhibits about the water level in Lake Michigan.

Surrounding the lighthouse is a pleasant beach with beautiful views of the lakeshore. It was a great spot for photos.

Certainly worth the extra few minutes to drive to the tip of the peninsula. We're glad we went.
