“Great place for large groups!”
Reviewed September 8, 2011

I stayed here as part of a wedding party a couple of weeks ago and it perfect for our group! We rented the entire house along with the carriage house and it was so fun to stay together since there were plenty of common areas for us all to hang out throughout the weekend. I especially liked the 3rd floor "ballroom" with the kitchen full of snacks/drinks (I probably had too many yummy cookies) and how unique each room was decorated. The breakfast was fantastic and Barb was a wonderful host! The house is beautiful and I can't wait to see the bridal party pictures throughout the house! I would highly recommend the Wellington to couples looking for a hotel alternative or for large groups who need the space. Perfect for wedding parties!!!

This Inn is located within waling (2-5 blocks) of Front Street downtown and a variety of restaurants and shops. The Inn keepers were very helpful in recommending places to eat and sharing the history of the Inn and the original family. Nine outstanding guest rooms plus many seating areas, a TV area and a snack room for that early cup of coffee or that evening glass of wine.

Room Tip: Be sure to check the size of the beds and the bath arrangements if you want a certain configuration.

We stayed here for our first trip without the kids, seeking specifically a place that was not "kid friendly" . We may have been a bit extreme in our requirements because we initially felt like we were staying at our grandparents house filled with fragile antiques.

However Barb was very nice and hospitable. We had one breakfast which was lovely and she had scones and fruit for us for the morning we had to leave early.

Only a couple of couple of suggestions... We would have brought our own pillows like we do to other hotels as they were not the most comfortable for me (down pillows would have been preferred) and breakfast is at 9 which may be a bit late if you want to go to the dunes and kayak that day. On the positive side...It was quiet and a great location for walking to town, Barb gave us some very helpful tips about places to go (the commons aka the asylum where we had dinner and went to some interesting galleries), we had more than enough space, snacks, and enjoyed the whirlpool bath to relax after the time on the road.

My daughter and I stayed 3 nights at this fantastic B&B during our road trip to visit some state colleges. Innkeepers Hank and Barb were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. We stayed in a large 2 bed room (Ramsdell) with a private bath decorated with period-appropriate faux painting on the walls. This inn was perfectly restored by Hank and Barb into a real gem in the center of downtown Traverse City. The breakfasts were the best and the most varied of any I have had at a B&B. One morning was a mixed berry starter followed by pistachio muffins with quiche lorraine and another day was a blueberry-banana parfait followed by spinach souffle, spicy chicken sausage and apple bread. The location couldn't have been better which allowed us to walk to the downtown shopping area, local restaurants, and the beach. A wonderful convenience for us was the 3rd floor kitchen that allowed us to refrigerate our restaurant leftovers and heat them up for a lunch or light dinner. Snacks and drinks were also provided for us 24 hours a day in this kitchen. I would highly recommend this inn which has several rooms with 2 beds that easily accommodate parties who are not the typical B&B vacationing romantic couple. For this particular reason, we felt right at ease with the various groups also staying at the inn.

Room Tip: Book early for summer or fall dates.

If this is your first B & B experience, understand that it will spoil you completely! No place has ever exceeded our expectations like the Wellington Inn. The inn is take your breath away beautiful that you're awestruck for a few minutes until Barb and Hank make you feel so welcome that it feels like home. Our room was lovely, the breakfasts were superb and the staff at the inn made us feel so comfortable and special. We definitely plan to be back!

This turn of the century inn was a pleasure to stay in. It was immaculate, the rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms better than any hotel has to offer. Our room had a jacuzzi tub as well as a shower. Barb, the proprieter, with her husband Hank, made some five star delicious breakfasts in their elegant dining room. We had to leave early in the morning and would miss breakfast. However, when Barb knew this she generously baked scones for us to take with us to the airport. It is that extra kindness extended that we will not forget the friends we have made in Traverse City, Michigan.

The house is as impressive from the outside as it is on the inside. Big 2 story columns was our first good impression. Period antiques and an abundance of natural lighting were highlights on the inside. Interesting and friendly innkeepers and a spacious room made our stay most enjoyable. The breakfast was spectacular. I have never had asparagus for breakfast before, but I may have to have it in the future.
