If you appreciate really good Italian food made with fresh ingredients, nicely presented and a good wine selection all with very good service, Trattorie Stella is the place to go. I give the food and service "5 circles". The restaurant is located in the lower floor of one of the Grand Traverse Commons buildings which is interesting from a historic standpoint but has terrible acoustics. A brutal hard scape of tile floor / brick walls and low ceilings for such a great restaurant. Admittedly, the place was full nearly to the last table while we were there which accounted for the high noise level. We will certainly revisit this restaurant in spite of the the noise level annoyance - the food is just too good.

I had the good fortune to host a business dinner at Trattoria Stella. From the moment we arrived, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

The service was stellar, for the drinks, the food, and the wine. It's clear the staff is highly trained, both in service, and the menu.

Our table enjoyed three appetizers - seared foie gras, the house-made burrata, and heirloom tomato salads. All three were delicious, with both the foie gras and the burrata as top dishes. Those that liked foie gras loved the hard sear on the offal, while those with less adventuresome palates enjoyed the delectable sauce presented with the cheese.

We ordered a number of entrees, and, while each person appeared to enjoy theirs, I can only report on mine. I ordered a lamb two ways: slices of leg of lamb, and a lamb sausage, served over polenta. Overall, a succulent dish, although the leg slices were a bit overdone, almost sharwama-like in texture. Aside from this, the dish was well-executed, and the sausage was delectable.

Entrees are appropriately-sized, so side dishes are not necessary, particularly if appetizers have been ordered.

Shared desserts and coffees followed, and more happy conversation. All agreed it had been a wonderful night, filled with fine food, very good wine, excellent service, and good company. And really, what more can you want from a restaurant?

Dinner was fantastic, we went with a group while visiting for a conference recently. Menu changes daily based on what is available, all items are from local farms or markets so it is supporting local Michigan economy. Dinner was amazing, everything we had was fantastic!

Wow...first, I had no idea of the location nor the history of the facility that houses this intriguing little place. Then I find out it isn't so little, nor just your average Italian fare.

Quality of food was outstanding, and complimented by the outstanding service and attention to detail. A few samples to start the meal, a few different types of wine to unwind and to prepare the taste buds for "what ever" was rewarded with great touches of spices, flavors, and just the right amount of food. This not your average "overflow the plate" to create value place, its the "enjoy the moment and quality place"
