“Best in TC”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

I've stayed in several hotels in TC and the Grand Beach has been the best by far. The beach is wonderful and the location is perfect. The rooms are updated and the bathrooms were very nice as well. The front desk staff was VERY helpful, although one guy back there seemed to be butting in every conversation, it was weird.

One thing that this hotel lacked compared to others that i've stayed was that there was no bon-fire area by the beach. After dark there werent many places I could chill with my family besides to cram into a room.

All-in-all, i'd definitely come back here and I'd recommend this place to anyone

We have stayed at this hotel two summers in a row. The rooms are spacious and clean. Each room as a mini fridge and microwave. The hotel staff is very friendly. However, the best feature is the beach. It is outstanding! They have chairs and cabanas down on the beach and have a great view and beachfront available. I would highly rate this hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in a beach level room which was great with kids. They could run right out onto the beach.

This place was fantastic!!!! We would have loved to stay an extra week. The room was very nice, the beds were soft and comfortable, the pool was very large and clean, the lobby was very comfortable with lots of seating, and the best part of all was the terrific beach and lake right out the back door. The sunset the first night was amazing.

We didn't spend much time relaxing; we rented wave runners from the booth that was five feet from the hotel back door, and we rented kayaks and a fantastic speed boat from its sister location that was located at the Sugar Beach Hotel, just a quick walk across the sand (there are two small properties between the two hotels). The hotel did a great thing letting this company set up shop on their property; it was great not having to get in a car and drive to rent stuff, and these guys were great to work with and did a first class job (and had nice equipment). We had a much, much better experience renting the speedboat from them than we did renting one last year at the Holiday Inn on the West Bay.

My parents booked a first floor room on the beach side, and that was super nice; in addition to a great view, those rooms come with a table and two chairs on the patio, as well as a metal four-sided picnic table that easily sat 8 just a little farther out on the shared walkway/deck area. My mom could watch all we were doing from the comfort (and shade) of the patio, and one day we just brought in Subway sandwiches and ate on their picnic table between activities.

The only thing that could have been way better was the breakfast. It had been touted as a "deluxe" continental breakfast, which I mistakenly assumed meant at least warming trays with scrambled eggs. In reality, it was a poor execution of a standard continental breakfast, in part because many of the items were in bulk (like the yogurt and cereal), thereby limiting substantially the number of options. The only thing that might warrant calling it "deluxe" was the availability of hard boiled eggs. I starved the first day and we headed to Bob Evans (just a few blocks away) for breakfast on the subsequent mornings (and that was great).

We're hoping to go back next year!!

Room Tip: Ask for room in the main building (with the pool and lobby) or for a room not on the first floor of...

We booked our trip a week prior in desperation for some up north fun. The hotel staff was very friendly, room was spotless. I recently had a bad hotel experience and this place relieved my fears. We booked the ocean front room which I recommend, the room was pricey but worth it. The view was fabulous and they had a great little balcony to sit on. We usually book a house on one of the lakes for the summer but this was a great alternative. The beach was well maintained with good lounge chairs. My 5 yo daughter had a great time on the beach and could walk out very far into the water and it was shallow. Breakfast provided was good, although sometimes you had to wait a bit if you waited until the last hour to go. Housekeeping did a great job daily. Great putt putt across the street and restaurants nearby. Short drive to downtown Traverse City.

Room Tip: With little kids a first floor room would be nice for going to and from the beach. Definitely pay th...

Great location. Nice beach. The room was nice, maybe a little pricey, but it was worth it. Expedia had us booked at a sister resort that didn't have a room. Grand Beach upgraded us for having to move 300 ft down the beach.

Room Tip: Waterfront rooms are nicer.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Beach Resort. Our room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The beach was beautiful. We didn't have a waterfront view but did have a balcony, which was nice. The location isn't far from downtown Traverse City. We will plan on staying again and hopefully have a room on the water.

I was in town for a convention held at the Grand Traverse resort. Always wanting to be able to "escape" the convention and relax on the off hours, I rarely stay on site. So, I searched and located this hotel online. Prices seem a bit high, but it is in line with the service and standards of the hotel. It's not that physically different than, for example, a Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn. But the level of effort of the staff and attention to detail on cleaning, etc makes the difference. The beach is lovely, with watersports rental on site, plenty of places to sit and relax, waterfront balconies to enjoy at night, and great views of the setting sun. Just the right vibe to relax and enjoy time with the family.

I found it to be a bit quiet for my taste...I'm one to sit out on the patio at night with a small music speaker and have drinks - - it was actually too quiet to do this, I felt I'd be disturbing others. I guess being on a lake is VERY quiet compared to an ocean front beach - - where you have the noisy surf as background noise.

All in all a great stay. Nice pool area inside with hot tub. Well maintained property, and staff very friendly and helpful at all points.

Room Tip: go for the lakefront balcony. Makes the trip. Call them directly for help booking as opposed to on...
