My husband and I spent our anniversary there last weekend. It was a GREAT vacation spot. We were more than satisfied with the price (out of season prices!), service, pool, and the beach. Everything was clean and well kept. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had no complaints. We went across the street to catch up with the local bike trail, spent some time window shopping, went to the Bowery, checked out the Old Mission Lighthouse, and overall had a relaxing experience. We are really hoping to come back!

The North Shore Inn is an extremely nice condo complex with well-decorated, nicely apportioned rooms. The hotel amenities were all as described on their website, and the employees were nice.

However, the website clearly states, "....located on Grand Traverse Bay, on the spectacular 'Miracle Mile,' a mile-long sugar sand beach, perfect for swimming and barefoot walks along the shoreline from one end of the East bay to the other." This is untrue. The water levels in the Bay have receded to the point where the beach by the North Shore Inn is unusable for swimming or walking, and access to the rest of the "Miracle Mile" is blocked on either side by trees and shrubs. Other nearby hotels have obviously dragged out the bay in front of their part of the beach so as to maintain access to the water for their guests.

On the positive side, there is a great deal of wildlife viewing available in the marshes that now exist in the "beachfront".

Additionally, they scheduled their parking lot to be repaved during the fourth week in June (while we were there), and as there were no vacancies that week, there was not enough parking for all of the guests. This would have been better accomplished earlier in the season, before tourism was at its height up north.

It is a good place to stay if you were not planning on a lot of beach-based water activities, but if a jog around the bay is what you have in mind, pass this one by.

Management response:Responded June 15, 2005

While the reviewer's comments about our beach conditions from a year ago (June, 2004) were accurate, I would like to inform other Trip Advisor readers that we have obtained permits to remove the marsh from our beachfront and we have restored and even improved the sandy beach in front of our hotel. The water at the beach's edge is again clear and pure, with a natural, sandy bottom again. A safety plus for children is that the depth is less than knee deep for a distance of approximately 200-300' out from the beach's edge. We feel that the combination of a nicely-restored beach and our carefully maintained and attractively furnished condominiums will continue to keep our hotel at the top of the list of Traverse City's finest lodging facilities.
