The drive from Traverse City to this place should be one of the reasons you should go here. You get to see the whole traverse bay and go through the narrow curves and turns as the wind blows through you. After reading couple of negative reviews I still wanted to try the place. The reason we did that was the weather didnt permit beach time and the website offered good insights on what to expect. On reaching there it didn't disappoint.

We did wine tasting and had no lines, our server was knowledgeable but a little to fast. It took some time for me to get the lingo. We checked the shop.....the best part was the different flavors of salsa, spreads and sauces you get. So fresh and worth a buy. I would buy them if you don't want to buy the wine. They also offer winery tour every 2 hrs. Call ahead to confirm the time. Its complimentary to do the tour!

This winery has a beautiful tasting area with a gorgeous view. They charge a small fee for 6 samples, but the fee is applied to any purchase that you make afterwards. The wine was awesome, reasonable priced and had several versions that incorporated the fruit that the regions is known for - the cherry. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit as well as the consumption of our purchases.

This was one of our 7 stops on a chauffeured wine tour (myself & future daughter-in-law). We were told they just redid their tasting room. Wow, really?!! What a waste of time. Apparently they moved their bar from the side of the room to the back. We waited in line for 20 minutes to finally be escorted to this enormous bar with only three servers! Wait, this IS July in the midst of Cherry Festival, right?!! While the server did the best she could & attempted to be polite and smile, we felt rushed as the line formed even longer behind us. When we were finished (rushing to get done within 5 minutes), the line was almost to the door (it's a VERY long room). The wines we tasted weren't worth mentioning, thus this was the only place on the tour that we didn't make a purchase; even though they would have credited us the $3 fee. It just wasn't worth it. Tasted like grocery store boxed wine. Something needs to change here quick!

We apologize for your negative experience during your recent winery visit. Not only do we pride ourselves on our many great wines, but we also to strive to provide the best customer service possible. As a northern Michigan resident, I am sure you can appreciate that the National Cherry Festival week can be exceptionally busy time with thousands of out of town visitors. During rainy days, we can be especially overwhelmed with guests seeking quality indoor activities. Although our recent tasting room renovation was designed to remedy this traffic problem, sometimes it is simply too busy. We sincerely apologize that we did not meet your expectation and ask that you to give us another opportunity to enjoy a quality wine tasting experience at a more leisurely pace. If you would like to follow up with us about this concern, you can reach us by email at info@cgtwines.com. We take your complaint seriously and will work to correct this matter for future visitors. Thank you again for your comments.

We stopped by here knowing this was the winery that started things on the peninsula. We walked in and were shown to a line. It was odd as they have a big tasting room but a small tasting bar. Their focus was more on merchandise than wine tasting it seems. We waited for a little while in line and finally walked out. It wasn't the experience we expected or wanted.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, as we take our customers' feedback very seriously. We apologize that you did not have the opportunity to taste our wines due to a negative experience, and am going to share this feedback with our tasting room staff as we are constantly trying to find ways to improve the tasting room experience for our guests.

Although our tasting room was recently renovated in an attempt to more efficiently accommodate the high volume of visitors that we see during these busy times, we are still adjusting to a brand new flow and doing our very best to be as efficient as possible. The month of July, specifically around the 4th of July weekend, is one of our very busiest times, and with over 500,000 people in the Traverse City area, a line for tasting is sometimes unavoidable. That said, we are sincerely disappointed to hear about your negative experience with us, and would encourage you to visit us again during a less congested time to enjoy a quality wine tasting, which we take great pride in sharing with you. We are confident that given a chance to taste our wines, you would be delighted with our excellent wines and knowledgeable staff.

If you'd like to share any further information about the experience, please contact us at info@cgtwines.com so that we can most accurately address the problem. Thank you again for sharing your feedback and helping us in achieving our goal of 100% guest satisfaction.

Chateau Grand Traverse has an awesome late harvest Riesling and some other nice wines to sample. I recommend taking the wine tour, which is free and interesting. Also, there is a beautiful view behind the winery.
