My husband and I stopped in for a beer and a bite while on date night. It lived up to the hype. Friendly service, nice beer selection, interesting and appealing menu (bummed they discontinued the scotch eggs though!). The pizza we ordered was fantastic. We will definitely go back.

This is a great addition to downtown. Its a really fun place to meet people for beers. They have a great selection and also have wine/ alcohol. The food is creative and fresh. Worth a visit!

I love to try different beers. Their choices are quite good. The food was very good too. It was a good value. Good atmosphere. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Be warned: Super tiny writing on their tri-fold menu.

My wife and I popped into 7 Monks after several attempts--it always seems crowded and busy. However, having now actually dined there, it was interesting to see that if the place *seems* crowded there is a regular ebb and flow of guests and diners. It doesn't stay crowded (nor empty) very long.
It does have a staggering array of beers available on tap as well as in a bottle. But those looking to slake their thirsts will a Bud or Miller or a Coors will need to go elsewhere. There were a few mass-market taps available (the cult favorite, PBR, for example, or Stella Artois), but really, why drink those?
The food, also, is remarkably good. We started with the meat and cheese tray, my wife opted for the Abbey Burger, while I opted for the "Monk-and-Cheese." All were tasty and well-prepared.
The 7 Monks is a tad pricey. You'll be hard pressed to find a beer under $7, while our appetizers and entrees approached $40. So, if you're looking for an inexpensive (or even moderately priced) brew pub 7 Monks ain't it.
It's also not for those seeking a quiet. When crowded, it's noisy. That's not a bad thing, and really, one wouldn't expect peaceful ambience in a "tap room."
The other quirky aspect of 7 Monks is that there is no formal seating or drink/food order policy. If the tables are full, they don't take names. It is, as one barmaid said, "first come first served." Secondly, if you take a seat across from the bar, you have to go up to the bar to order drinks and food. But if you sit at one of the tables *near* the bar, they wait on you (and your bar tab is transferred over to your waiter). So, again, be aware. That said, service at the table we snagged was cordial and prompt.
With so many beer-centric options in TC (and another--The Filling Station--is just opening) it will be interesting to see how 7 Monks does. But for those looking for a variety of craft and specialty beers, 7 Monks will not disappoint.

This is a welcome addition to the tc scene, both as a drinking spot and a food spot. 7 monks has a chic ambience and has more of a big city feel to it, while still exuding the warmth and charm of traverse city. Sexy decor and lighting draw a hip crowd, while great food and a huge beer selection keeps em coming back. The bartenders are attentive and laid back. First couple times stopped in for beers, drawn by how pleasant (and happening) it looked from street. Tried some yummy, hoppy selections. Next time in, just went for lunch, as we'd been dying to try the food! It didn't disappoint. The menu is small and interesting- just how we like it. Went off staff's recommendations which were so well-prepared. Scallops were to did for! Had the famous burger which was terrific with delicious sweet potato fries, and a German mustard-y bratwurst with spetzel and pickles- not your typical TC fare! Even though we were only drinking water on this occasion bartenders equally attentive and cool. They're doing great things in that kitchen, atmosphere is terrific, and it's a can't-miss if you're a beer person!
