“Downright Disgusting”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Yes, this motel offers very affordable rooms, but the sanitary conditions aren't worth your $45. Rusty bolts in the pool, drinking fountains in the pool room were rusted through. Our room wasn't any better. Dirty tub/shower, behind the toilet there were clumps of hair, and the sink was dirty. Our bedcovers were dirty and smelled bad, I wouldn't even let my children touch them. We took them off and put them in a drawer while we were there. The noise was ridiculous, and we could hear everything other guests were saying in the rooms on either side of us. This motel was just plain disgusting.

Whether you're coming from 80 or 800 miles away, you won't be disappointed with your stay at Motel 6 in Traverse City unless you feel most comfortable when you've spent 60 -70% of your vacation budget on high end accomodations at places with room service, day spas and state-of-the-art fitness centers. But in today's economy, if you're a young couple, a family trying to make sure their kids have fun-filled vacation memories, or just a couple of empty nest retirees with a dog trying to make the most on a fixed income, please give this place a chance. No extra fees for the dog, by the way. Additionally, this Motel 6 sits in a perfect location. Pirate's Cove Adventure Park ( putt putt golf, go carts, water rides and more) is right next door. If biking, roller blading, dog walking or running suit your fancy, just hop on the paved path right behind the motel ( called the "Traverse Area Recreational Trail") and enjoy. So many things to do (shopping, dining, hiking, sight-seeing, wine tasting, skiing, snowmobiling, casino gambling, etc.). And when your day is done, come back to rest at at Motel 6, where you'll always find good, clean, honest, safe, no frills lodging provided by extremely attentive staffers who never forget to keep the front desk morning coffee fresh and flowing. If you want the cheapest and trashy here is the place for you. My first room was really cold, so they had to figure what was the next worse room. I moved into that room the people upstairs were pacing the floor, the radiator was making sounds like it had a short and could not get sleep again.
I asked to change rooms again and the manager would not move me even after I said I would cover the cost. He was bull headed and I decided to leave.

Room Tip: Stay away if you do not want the hassle.

This place is always a good deal for me. The rates are the best for about 4 miles from downtown. As I am rarely in the room, usually to just sleep, shower, and head out for the day, there is no reason for me to spend another $50 to $75 per night for frills and being closer to the city. This Motel 6 is always clean, quiet, with friendly and helpful desk attendents, and an in-door pool if you feel like jumping in. I jump into Lake Michigan in the summer so I do not use the pool much. Lots of close places to eat, and a reasonable drive to the elaborate casino on M-72. US-31/37 can be busy so heads up when you pull out during certain times of the day. The free internet WiFi works flawlessly, fast enough for me, and the cable TV gets lots of stations, more than I would ever watch besides CNBC and sports. Totally satisfied. I have stayed here many times. There are some things to do for the kids,a road racing park and minature golf next door, plus the TART trail is next to the parking lot in the back, for bicycling or walking peacefully west to the state park or a fast food place up and down the TART trail.

Room Tip: I like the second floor rooms because in many hotels, people in the parking lots honk their car horn...

If your looking for the Holiday in you won't find it here. You will find
a very good price on a comfortable room. It was quiet, beds were
great, and staff was very kind and helpful. There is no breakfast
or coffee in the room, but for $39.00 on weekdays I will settle for just comfortable and quiet. I will be going back again.

On main drag, near family focused spot like Pirates Cove, but this place is over-priced with little to offer. Initial attempt to reserve was met by "we have no openings"; minutes later, I had a reservation by contacting the Motel 6 800 number.

Avoid the pool (over chlorinated and disgusting tiles) and hot tub. Rooms are very spartan. Old TV sets, bad wireless connection, no carpeting - a cross between a dorm room and a cell. Nothing good to say about this place at all!

Room Tip: Good rooms do not exist at this location.

From start to finish... very bad experience. Besides loosing our reservation (name spelled wrong, even though we spelled it to them); no coffee in the room...only 2 towels in the room (for four people); at first they refused to bring towels, and they shorted us towels the next day again... No closet, only one small pillow per person, no extra blankets, no tissues. The room had a peculiar odor. No continental breakfast available here...The owner was very rude and had no people skills.

This was the worst motel we have ever stayed at...we would have been better off (and happier) staying in the car...

Room Tip: Do not stay there...pay $10 more and stay at a different hotel; it is worth it!
