Food was good and fish was fresh tasting, I thought before i walked in it was going to be a different kind of restaurant. You order at the counter and someone brings food to your table, good fried food or fried fish establishment. It was very close to the hotel we were staying at.

We love simply cooked very fresh fish, such as Lake Superior or Michigan whitefish. This budget-priced spot, one block S of Front St, does an excellent job on traditional fish & chips. Enjoy!

We were a party of 5 and we had a hankering for fish so we ended up here. We all ordered the 2 or 3 fish piece and then extra side of hush puppies. The fish was below average. We asked the young man for lemons and he walked over to the soda station and grabbed lemons from there and brought them to our table. When I picked up the lemon is was so slimy. when I brought it to his attention he did not know why they were liked that. Just by looking at the lemons you can see there was something wrong with them. Out of all of us we ate a little over 1 piece. He cleared the table and could clearly see no one ate anything but did not say anything. Do not visit not worth the money and not worth getting sick on vacation.

Drove up to Mackinaw City this morning to walk around and wait for Scalawags to open. Wanted to have some whitefish for lunch with my daughter. We will be doing the bridge walk tomorrow and it will be impossible to get in then. The whitefish is deep fried with a very thin batter. Have been here every year fro last 7 years and food is very consistent. There is plenty of outside seating. Would love to have one of these closer to me.

Scalawag's was a great find for us on a recent trip to Traverse City. Stay with the whitefish and you won't be disappointed for a the price. It is not the best seafood restaurant that we have visited but all in all a great little spot in the middle of downtown.
