Nice, cozy little fish & chips spot. Locally owned. Fried fish was not overdone, flaky inside and crisp batter. Several types of fish to choose from. Good portions but not huge. Order at counter and server will deliver. Friendly staff and owner helped hubby find local fishing hole for outing with daughter. Ask owner why his award winning "chili" isn't on the menu. It sounded tasty!

I first visited the Scalawag franchise in Mackinaw City; now I enjoy it here because of the fresh white fish. It is a comfortable place where I can take my grand kids who like the atmosphere as well as their kid's menu.

If you are looking for fresh fish done in a great rustic fish themed dining area. Nothing fancy just great whitefish, perch and walleye from northen Michigan. Salads and great soup and chowder.

We didn't care for Scalawags. Place is nice, clean, well decorated. But has that thick smell of deep fried fish. The flavor was also extremely fishy. We've all been to ordinary bar/restaurant's with food better than here.

This small shop owner did not disappoint us. I always look for this type of place to eat when out of town.
The price is fair, atmosphere is Nautical, and location/parking is easy. A free City garage is a short walk to the east. Some on street parking is available.
The Breading is light and does not make you feel like your eating bread. The Fish was fresh and light. The Chips are good alone or with vinegar.
