We could not get reservations at more highly rated places in Traverse City at the height of the summer season. We very much enjoyed this large place by Grand Traverse Bay on M31 at the edge of town. The fish was quite good, the view was fun and close to the Bay, and the ambience was pleasing. Lots of families. I would recommend not sitting by the door to outdoor dining, even though the view is good. Constant coming and going.

We decided on this place because it was close to the Tall Ship cruise. We were running short on time, so we informed our waitress when we arrived that we were in a rush to get to our cruise. She immediately took our order and told us she would inform the kitchen, also. Our food arrived very quickly and was delicious. My mother-in-law had the french onion soup and wedge salad, my husband had the bleu cheese burger, and I had the fried whitefish sandwich. All of these choices were very good. The menu was extensive, and we would have liked to have tried it for dinner.

We caught lake trout that afternoon on a charter, and the captain advised us Harringtons could prepare our fresh catch for us, so we brought our own filets and for a $20 per person fee they prepared fish for 9 people, as deep fried (for the kids), blackened, and sauteed in olive oil and lemon. All were excellent. Even the kids who don't like fish liked it. And contrary to what some may say, the lake trout from Traverse Bay were excellent in terms of flavor and texture (but as to whether or not they contain trace amounts of toxins, well who knows?)

Beat restaurant in TC! The fish tacos are amazing. The only taco that I have ever had that comes close in taste is my sisters. The staff is really friendly and polite. It's always a place to go if you are hungry. You get right in. Most other places are highly sought after and command 1-2 hour wait times, not Harrington's. The view of the bay is also incredible. Thanks!

It was a beautiful night when we stopped here for dinner, so we asked to sit outside. My only complaint was that the tables there had benches without backs rather than chairs, and after a day at the Dunes I was hurting. But that was our fault, as we asked for a table outside for the view. And the view is excellent! The food is pretty good overall. The whitefish pate is spectacular! The chowder is pretty good, and the salads were good. My husband and I both had perch and as some reviewers have said the portion is small, but after appetizers and salads our dinners were plenty. We left feeling full but not stuffed. The server accidentally spilled some water on our 13-year-old and apologized profusely, even offering us a free dessert. We told her it wasn't necessary -- just water and his clothes didn't even get wet. Plus, we were headed downtown to have pie! Overall, this is a pretty pleasant place to dine and we would be back and recommend it to others.
