“Amazing place”
Reviewed April 1, 2014 via mobile

Went there today with the family and was pleasantly surprised! The shops are great, artwork lines the brick halls - just wish I went there hungrier because there were great places to eat or snack! Not sure why there were some pretty negative reviews!

“Great rebirth of a beautiful town”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

This purpose-built town was formerly the Traverse City State Hospital, the Northern Michigan Asylum and lastly the Traverse City Regional Psychiatric Hospital.

This new reboot is fantastic with restaurants, galleries and shops now populating the solidly built walls.

Trattoria Stella is in the Mercato and sits happily in the former kitchens.

There are new condos and apartments being built within and around the buildings.

I highly recommend you experience it.

“boring”
Reviewed March 21, 2014

My daughter and I went here hoping to read up on some history or something. It was nothing but expensive shops inside. We were not impressed at all. And not as many shops inside as you would think. I kind of thought it was a wasted trip. Maybe if they have an event going on at the same time there but it did nothing for us.

“An historical cannot miss”

The former asylum property transformed with unique shops and eateries. Absolutely loved the third generation furrier...his artistic creations from old fur pieces were splendid.
