“Such hospitality!!”
Reviewed September 9, 2008

We spent Labor Day weekend at Chateau Chantel. From the moment we entered the Chateau until the time of our departure, we felt right at home. Our stay began with a quick tour of the facility, including a friendly narrative of the history of the property. We were thoughtfully brought back to our room where we learned the ins and outs of the self serve after hours aspect of the Chateau. Imagine, an honors system truly respected in a winery! The views from the suites and public rooms are unique and cannot be duplicated by any other site on the peninsula. We were able to see the East Bay and West Bay, depending where we were in the Chateau. Most rooms have a balcony or patio. Decide if you are a sunrise or a sunset person and inquire which rooms fit your personality. When the Chateau was built, there were only 2 rooms, Rose and Merlot. The other rooms and suites are named after artists and the decor varies. Check out the tours available on their web site. Music softly plays throughout the Chateau public areas, night and day. Breakfast is different each morning, featuring several home-cooked dishes. The chef is very personable, describes the dishes and invites feedback. A tour is available after breakfast. We were fortunate to have the owner as our tour guide. He explained the history of the property, the grape varietals, showed us the equipment, took us through the cellar as well as the fermenting and bottling area. A fireplace, piano and computer are available for use by guests. Rooms book quickly - plan ahead and you won't be sorry!

We stayed at Chateau Chantal a few weeks ago for the first time and we are already looking forward to a return visit! This is definitely the most unique B&B we have ever stayed at. The setting is breathtaking, the accommodations are elegant, the breakfasts are delicious, and the staff is very welcoming and helpful. And oh yes.....the wine! What a treat to stay at an actual winery! Guests receive a complimentary glass of wine each day and tours are offered each morning after breakfast. We really wanted to extend our stay, but all the rooms were spoken for. I can understand why.....this place is a real gem!

We just returned from Chateau Chantal yesterday. Overall, our stay was nice, but had a huge unexpected downside. We stayed in the newer section in one of the best rooms so we had high expectations. After a long day of traveling, we checked in fairly late and were exhausted. We had to be up early for some family events the next day. After falling asleep around midnight we were woken at 4am by the fire alarm that continued to go off for about 15 minutes. After quiet was finally restored, we had barely fallen back asleep when the fire alarm went off again at 5:30am and continuatly went off until about 10am. We were just exhausted. At breakfast at 8:30 the situation was addressed and an apology was made, but there was no attempt made by management to compensate the guests for previous night. The explanation was that the dense fog may have set off the alarm which was impossible to shut off from just one switch. Still we did feel that the staff in general were nice and the scenery beautiful and the next two nights were uneventful. Even now, I'm a bit dismayed that CC did not approprately address the situation since they are known to be one of the nicest places to stay on the Pennisula.

On August 14, 2008 my husband and myself spent one wonderful day on the Old Mision Peninsula. We checked into Chateau Chantal at 2:30 (we were a little early -but no problem there). The young woman at the desk was warm and welcoming and showed us to our room and gave us a full tour of the building. When we entered our room they had jazz playing softly on the clock radio in the bedroom. We stayed in the Cezanne suite. You walk into the living room that is nicely furnished with a sleep couch, comfy chair and armoire with T.V. and a table for 2. There is a kitchen kind of area with cabinets and a sink. There are goodies in a basket and wine for puchase. Everything is on the honor system (including the tasting room). You can help yourself to wine in the lobby or tasting room and let them know at checkout and they will add it on your bill. There is a door that leads to a patio with a view of the bay. There are some evergreens framing the view that also give you some privacy from anyone walking by. The bedroom held a queen bed, dresser and nice bedside tables. In the large luxurious bathroom there are doors that lead to both the bedroom and living room. The property sits on a hill with incredible views. Guests can wander and sit wherever they would like. The tasting room is on the other end of the bulding with their own parking lot. In the tasting room you can sample the wonderful wines and purchase what you like. They also have a nice selection of gift and souvenir items. Next to that is a large gathering type room that they had a Jazz band in (thursday evenings in the summer). This is also where they do the Tapas with wine tasting and breakfast for the guests of the B&B. When we came for breakfast in the morning, the tables were set with nice china and champagne glasses for Orange juice. Breakfast was awesome. A buffet with an egg dish, sausage, fresh fruit, potatoes and still warm muffins. Cereal and toast were also available. After breakfast they offered a private tour of their winery operations for guests only. We hated to leave and plan to return as soon as we can. The staff is the friendliest and most accommodating I have encountered. We totally enjoyed ourselves and felt relaxed and renewed.

My wife and I have made it a tradition to travel somewhere new each year for our anniversary. We have lived overseas for the past four years, which has allowed us to spend our anniversaries in some wonderful & exotic locations. This year, our anniversary fell in the middle of our trip to Michigan to visit family...though we knew it wouldn't be exotic, we wanted to find somewhere special to celebrate our anniversary in Northern Michigan. Chateau Chantal turned out to be just what we were looking for.

From the time of check-in to check-out, we were treated to a fantastic experience that matched the best places we have stayed in Europe, Asia, etc. The views from the Chateau were fantastic, the facilities were tastefully decorated & appointed, and the employees were friendly & knowledgeable. We stayed in the Monet room, which included a private balcony with views over the vineyards and bay. The jacuzzi tub was a wonderful way to relax after a long day of sight-seeing.

As a guest of the Chateau, you have free access to the wine-tasting facilities after public tasting hours are over...this was fantastic! Like kids in a candy store after it had closed, everyone had a great time pouring their own wine tastings at night. Everyone met again in the morning for a terrific home-made breakfast, including fresh juice, eggs, fruit and freshly-baked bread. Breakfast was followed by a special tour of the wine-making facilities for the guests. We have done winery tours in some wonderful locations (France, Italy, Germany, etc) and I can honestly say that the tour we had at Chateau Chantal was every bit as good. The guide was amazingly knowledgeable and engaging. Our appreciation for Michigan as a legitimate wine-growing region is much higher after our stay at Chateau Chantal!

I can recommend Chateau Chantal without hesitation and believe it was worth the relatively high price for our stay. We look forward to staying again next time we are in Northern Michigan for a special occasion

We went up to Traverse City for wine tasting and stumbled on to the Chateau Chantal, this place was amazing. Since it was a Sunday there was 1 room left, the executive apt. Although it was only the 2 of us and the room for that night (walk in special) was $325, it was worth every cent. This place is wonderful. They allow their guests to visit the wine tasting room after hours, that was very fun. We met other couples and had a great time. Our "room" was amazing, an extremely large 2 bedroom apt, 2 balconies, full kitchen (all stainless steel) and a wonderful fireplace. We are planning another trip up there in September, we can't wait!!

This was a wedding present from our friends! It took us about a year to book this (it books fast...if you want the fall..good luck!)...We went from July 25th-July 27th. This place was beautiful...wine was great...rooms were nice...the atmosphere is the best!!
I was really impressed that the owners live on the property and the man comes around in the morning at breakfast and pours your juice and asks how everything is! Very classy!

We did the Tapas tour! For $25 it was well worth it. We tried 9 wines with food pairings. our tour guide Lindsay was amazing! Make sure you tip her if you go....she doesn't expect it...but I think she is well deserving of it!

If you would like to know more about the wineries within the area that we went to, please email me:
