“SUMMER FAMILY FUN - & Education too”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

What a great way to experience some Family Fun with Science and Sailing on a tallship. The two masted Schooner sails out of Suttons Bay, Mi, just north of Beautiful Traverse City. The non-profit conducts a wonderful program for students of all ages. 6 year olds can have a great time as well as mom and dad. If you have smaller ones, I'd find a babysitter, as mom or dad spends most of their time tending to the little one, and misses the opportunity to experience the adventure. And what an adventure it is - we all had a great time, the weather was perfect and we met some really nice people and learned a lot about the Great Lakes. The older kids were put to work raising the anchor and all of us helped raise the sails. We got to steer the boat, and go below deck for some of the science stations. I highly recommend this activity for families. Especially if you have some kids that really enjoy science. We adults had a great time as well. Check out their website at: www.schoolship.org . They do travel around Northern Lake Michigan to other cities too, so maybe they will be in your marina or close by this summer that you live near, or will be visiting. Bring grandma and grandpa too. Even in some of your kids don't like science, the entire experience is well worth the time spent enjoying being out on the water on a really cool tallship. I would do this again in a heartbeat. If you go to Suttons Bay you can check out the really cool little museum they have on site. We learned a lot just walking through and participating in some great hands on activities. The museum center is free to view. There is a very reasonable fee to go out on the Science Adventure. Ten Stars in my book. Two tumbs up.
