Pete and Nancy have been here for years. It is the place to go when you want good food and good friends. Perch, fish of the day, blackened sword fish and ribs are always good.

From the minute we walked inside this restaurant I had a good feeling, it just looked and felt like the right choice. The dining room looked as though it could provide fabulous lake views, but it was late at night so we chose the bar side. Patrons and staff all seemed to be having a fun time and we were comfortable there, even though it's somewhat tight quarters and just noisy enough to create a party type atmosphere without being distractive. Our server was great, the cocktails first class and we had an interesting selection of menu choices. Especially tasty was the blackened swordfish appetizer, plus the cheese spread and bread paired perfectly with our drinks. Outstanding steak and delicious walleye highlighted our meal, and although the desserts sounded good, we were too full to try any. Reasonably priced for the overall quality of the food, service and ambience...we'll be back !

There are two sides of the Grande Mere Inn, both of which are equally tasty. In the bar, you can get a less expensive, but no-less-delicious, bar menu or you can chose to have the restaurant menu.

In the restaurant, which is more formal but still not stuffy, they will also serve the bar menu on a slow day if you ask for it, but there aren't many slow days at this establishment. Except in the depths of winter, i's a go-to place for Chicagoians out to their summer homes, and locals alike.

The service is friendly and warm, if a bit slow. (Don't go there if you're rushing to catch a movie -- we made this mistake only once.) The food has a home cooked feel in a good way. Their ribs, in particular, are oh, so tasty.

Oh, and kill the diet and dig into their basket of bred/biscuits and cheese that come with every meal. They are, in my opinion, the very best part.

My family went there on a mini-family reunion, dressed casually, but it is also a great date restaurant. On clear evenings you can see Lake Michigan; when you make a reservation, request a window seat. Fabulous perch and walleye, but there are many other entree choices. Great service and great food - we will be coming here again!
