“Unique small bakery and cafe.”

We visited this little shop (now expanding) after seeing a local TV feature on them. We were glad we did. The bread selection was very good. The sourdough bread is a specialty of the house. Have a baked goodie and coffee, grab a loaf of the sourdough bread and you will be a happy camper.

“Good lunch but expensive for my budget.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013 via mobile

My wife had received a $25 gift certificate so we decided to get lunch. The server was rather snobby at first but then realised it was our first visit and explained the menu options. I had a make your own sandwich on the recommended pretzel bread which was excellent. My wife had tuna and the stew. Both were excellent. We both lie the decoration. Only complaint was the price- $23 for lunch for two. If that is what you want to pay then this is excellent choice but outside my budget.

“Great Pizzas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The pizzas are awesome, as are the cheese scones. Great little bakery off of M-104 in Spring Lake. Also right off of the bike path. The breakfast is also pretty delicious.

“Must visit”

Great selection of fresh baked bread and cakes that are made in the store. The chocolate dipped macaroons are the best we have ever had! Great service with a smile.

“Hometown Favorite”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

Village Baker isn't your typical bakery. If you want a doughnut, go to Wesco, the gas station down the street. The bakery is a café and bakery featuring breads and pastries--cookies, small cakes, bars, cannoli, and other specialty bakery items, and these are the highlight. It has given Spring Lake a good-food restaurant with good and friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. The breakfast menu is a limited, but good, featuring breakfast sandwiches, french toast, granola, crepes, and quiche. The lunch and dinner menu includes sandwiches, soups, stews including feijoada, a Brazilian stew, and pizza. The pizza is particularly good and a good buy--starting at $8 a pie. The coffee is good--includes espresso and espresso based drinks. The atmosphere is inviting--a good place to meet friends, to visit solo (wifi), or with a sweetheart. Why I don't rate the Baker as excellent: It touts "local" but doesn't use very many locally sourced foods and sells a lot of imported items; it doesn't have a very vegan/vegetarian friendly menu (I'm neither, but like the option to not eat meat); no gluten-free items (and gave me a factually inaccurate answer when I asked about including GF items); and some of the prices for fresh items--a dozen eggs for $5, is just plain crazy. This is Spring Lake, not San Francisco.
