“Cheap yet great food”
Reviewed April 5, 2014

This is a real gem of a Greek restaurant. Food is very cheap but very good. I entered in the restaurant with my colleagues reluctantly but since then have been there thrice in three weeks. must try

“Great Value, Nothing fancy”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

The food was great, and the service good too. You can't beat the value for this very authentic homemade Greek fare.

“Still Going like Crazy After All these years--A Great Success Story”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

My wife and I have been eating at this restaurant for over 35 years. It has been through
about three different owners and has never missed a beat. The present owners (two brothers)
assisted by their parents serve up the best authentic Greek cuisine to be eaten anywhere in the
Detroit. area. Here's why:

Best Greek salad with fresh ingredients including the best tasting Greek dressing anywhere-
other restaurants sell theirs, this one beats them all

Homemade off the spit Gyros sandwiches on freshly made and grilled Pita bread which is
really delicious and filling

Lamb shank which is tender in a homemade tomato sauce accompanied by terrific green
beans, peas, and rice with that same terrific tomato sauce

Any number of Greek specialties that I am told are equally as good.

Most complete meals are under $10 which is about half of what you would pay in more fancy
but less accomplished Greek restaurants

Here's the best advice. Don't go for lunch. It's mobbed during the week. Rather than that,
go for a late lunch(after 2:00 PM or an early dinner or a regular dinner. Because, this part
of Southfield and this mall where it resides has little pizzazz, it is much easier to have a relaxed
meal without the hustle and bustle. The owners deserve better, but most of the neighborhood
residents moved away over the years, the Farmer Jack store closed, and nothing came in
to replace it. The brothers don't complain, but they deserve a big crowd every night.

Again, this is Greek comfort food at its finest with wonderful a pleasant atmosphere always.
If you go and have a great meal there, please let everyone know.

One last note--the busboy hasn't changed for the last thirty years. He does his work quietly
and has a pleasant personality that typifies what this whole experience is about.

“Still worth the trip!”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

Every time I visit Detroit, I make a point to eat at Athens Souvlaki. Usually, I have their excellent gyros. This time, I tried the combo meal with equally excellent results.

The centerpiece, a generous portion of lamb shank, was tender and tasty with a seasoned gravy. The stuffed grape leaf was meaty and slightly spicy. The moussaka was mildly seasoned, so the natural flavors of the eggplant and ground beef shone through. The spanakopita was exactly the same as on previous visits, when my wife called it the best spanakopita she'd ever eaten.

If you like Greek food and you're anywhere within range of Athens Souvlaki, make the trip to treat yourself to a memorable meal!

“Great food for very reasonable price”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

I worked at this place many years ago. The food is really wonderful. You can order your pita “Dry" & it is just perfect. True about Greek Salads & amount of gyro meat- portions are huge.
The owners are extremely nice & honest people. I am very glad they are still in business. :)
