We spent a lovely weekend here, celebrating a family member's birthday. We especially appreciated the convenience of a first floor room for our handicapped member. I agree with all the positive comments made by the other reviews. The only inconvenience we experienced is that there is not enough seating for breakfast. Tables filled rapidly and trying to balance a tray on your lap is awkward. Other than that, our time here was great.

The Sand Castle Inn was the perfect escape. We stayed in the Tower Suite which was the only suite on the 3rd, top, floor. The room was awesome with windows all around and a balcony. There were appetizers in the afternoon, cookies, drinks, and a delicious hot breakfast on the wrap around porch. The Inn is within walking distance of anywhere you'd want to go in South Haven.. a 15-20 min. walk to the pier where we watched the sunset. This was our third trip to the Sand Castle Inn. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: The Tower Suite offers privacy and a view of the park across the street.

My husband and I stayed at Sand Castle from July21-24,2012 have stayed at other B&B and this was the best from accomendations, food and service. Our first night stay was in the pool room-very clean and nicely decorated-very quiet. We stayed 3 nights then in the Crown Room-great room-liked the private patio, clean, pretty furniture. Both rooms were very relaxing and comfortable beds, did not hear other people coming and going. The inn staff were friendly, provided a declious complete breakfast at 9:00 a.m. each morning, afternoon snack and evening frest cookies, always had beverages and candy available. Just a one block walk to the beach and near downtown stores and restaurants. The pool is well maintained-had some great swimtime and relaxing on the lounge chairs. Also liked having breakfast on the patio and sitting on the big front porch. We made some new friends, looking forward to returning. Tara and Guane B.

Room Tip: Recommend the Crown Room and the Pool Room.

My wife and I had a lovely vacation at the Sandcastle Inn. We loved that it is a one block walk to a little used and very nice beach on Lake Michigan. When I got tired of the sand, we would walk back to the pool and take a dip (then a nap in the lounge chairs). We were almost always had the pool to ourselves. Don't underrate the value of the pool, it really made the difference on our stay. The room was very clean and the bathroom was very nice. The entire Inn is very well decorated and furnished. Nice big flatscreen TV for relaxing in the room in the evening.

We will definitely be returning next year for another week-long stay.

Room Tip: If you plan on sleeping in or are a light sleeper, I recommend a room on the second floor. Our first...

We had a wonderful stay away. We were there for 3 nights and wish it was longer. The staff was very friendly and took care of any need. The beach is a block away, shops and restaurants were just a bit farther. We drove into town but it is within walking distance.
Some of our favorite things included: Amazing hot breakfast casseroles every morning, snack, appetizers, warm chocolate chip cookies every day, wi fi---indoor and out, small private pool
(never anyone there!), beautiful furnishings, front porch was amazing (great view and you can even see the beach!), sunsets in South Haven are heavenly, fridge for the guests (for leftoevers, wine, etc), very quite in our room---we NEVER heard any other guests.
We will definitely stay there again!!

Room Tip: The "garden room" has a weird bathroom setup---the toilet and shower are behind a closed d...

Went on a last minute trip to South Haven with my boyfriend. We stayed on a Monday night at the end of July, peak season. The room was clean, air conditioner worked great, private porch was awesome. Went out for breakfast as the breakfast was not served until 10am and we were hungry earlier and renting a boat in the early afternoon. Only complaint was that we went in around 230 and asked for an early check-in and the inn keeper looked at us like we were crazy. We didn't think 30 minutes made a huge difference. Also, when we were checking out she wasn't the friendliest either. This was our first experience at a B&B and unfortunately she did not solidify a great experience for us. Maybe we caught her on a bad day, but we will most likely try another B&B next time.

We had a great time at this B and B. It is close to the beach and there is a mini pool at the B and B which is not used very much by the guests (because they are at the beach). The pool was a little quiet zone for after the beach and was very pleasant.
South Haven and the state of Michigan need to work on its basic guest skills in a big way, however. We did not find a really good restaurant with fresh innovative dishes i.e. vegies included in seafood dishes, etc. Progressive food syles are lacking here. Standard unimaginative food styles are in abundance. We did not see a resaurant on the water. The service standard overall in our experience was good in most places but miserable in a couple of instances. I rarely, if ever, complain and I had 2 service feedback experiences.... and no one seems to know about service recovery. Excuses were given with no apology, no accountability. One was at a sports rental establishment and one at a restaurant that lost my order.
On the beach, what is up with all the No Trespassing signs? Why does the legislature of Michigan think people are visiting? Thin public sections of beach cordoned off between condos for the poor slobs who are not directly on the beach front. What is the actual number of feet from the water that is public domain? We are from Illinois and Lake Michigan beaches on the Illinois and Wisconsin side are definitely more user friendly. Florida is more user friendly. Michigan shores and dunes are lovely and close to Chicago, but Michigan needs to get the rod out of their collective bottoms and get sincere about hospitality. I spent well over $1,000 on this vacation, and in this economy the poor state of Michigan thinks it can treat people like red haired step children? I won't be back to experience South Haven until amnesia sets in....
