“Nice lakefront location ...”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

The beach in South Haven is excellent, and the walk out on to the pier is very pleasant. Sunsets into Lake Michigan are SPECTACULAR, some of the best I've seen anywhere in the world. In the winter you can catch some extreme and surreal ice formations on or around the lighthouse: frigid but worth it.

The lighthouse itself is mediocre, not very large and somewhat run down. It's best feature is likely the catwalk (which does light up after dark). I understand it's been sold recently and hopefully will be restored in the coming years.

“Pristine beach;lighthouses pale in comparison”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

We visited Lake Michigan's Southeastern shore in South Haven, Michigan, and were absolutely delighted with the pristine shore and wonderfully clean and clear water. There were plenty of available bathroom facilities for the kids and a nice playground/park area. The lighthouses (2 of them which serve the Black River boats), however, were nothing special and paled in comparison to those in the Cleveland area on Lake Erie. True, the walk along the pier to the one lighthouse and the views from both of them were nice, but the lighthouses themselves were inaccessible and just something to look at rather than experience. Don't make them a highlight of your trip or you will be disappointed.
