First of all, let me say that we've been to South Haven countless times. This was our first time staying at the Old Harbor Inn. You can't ask for a friendlier front desk staff. They were very helpful and bent over backwards to make sure that our stay was a great one.
We had a deluxe suite with a jacuzzi that was in a separate building from the main entrance. I liked that feeling that we had a room that was unique and a bit different from some of the others. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and there were more than enough pillows, even for someone like me who often travels with a pillow just so that I have enough.
Our room came with wireless internet, a mini fridge, a microwave, coffee maker and coffee, and a large bathroom. We had a table with chairs, sofa, and plenty of room plus a great view. The jacuzzi was appointed with robes and large towels, just for that purpose. Our room also had an ironing board, hair dryer, and Bath & Body amenities. There is no charge for parking, but know that the only parking options are the street or the public lots. Everything is easy walking distance, but just know that during the high season you may have to scrounge to find parking in the middle of the day.
On the plus side, this room is SO CONVENIENT to everything downtown. It's easy to walk to breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can walk down to the beach or the pier. Our visit straddled the Memorial Day weekend, which meant that very few things downtown were open the first couple of days we arrived. The last two days we were there, everything was open.
On the down side, the internet connection was spotty at best. We had no knives in our silverware drawer. Housekeeping fell down one day and only did half our room, but the front desk quickly remedied the deficiency in our room's supplies.
Having said all of that, I'd easily return to Old Harbor Inn. Next time I would request a room with a better internet connection (if possible), because that's an important feature to me. Otherwise, I'd say take a chance with this hotel. It's a perfect example of small town charm!
