“Bed and Golf!”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

We drove down from our home in North Muskegon and found a very nice room...clean, comfortable and quiet. The hostess at the Inn went out of her way with friendliness and kindness to make us feel welcome upon our arrival. The staff at the pro shop were very helpful, letting us store our clubs over night for our morning tee time. The golf course was in great shape. Hard to believe this nice inn and golf course are tucked away behind busy U.S. 31! We will come back for a stay and play getaway again next summer. Sorry...we cannot review the restaurant as we did not eat there. But the complimentary breakfast was very nice the next morning. Our only concern was lack of independent usage of the air conditioning unit. The entire floor on which we stayed had to be at the same setting. Other than that we give this inn high ratings!

“Lovely, Relaxing Meal”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

HawksHead is a beautiful restaurant, in a lovely setting. Nearly every table has a terrific view of either the grounds of the golf course or, even better yet, overlooking the ravine. The dining room is very relaxing, very "clubby" if you will.
We were quite early for our dinner reservation, and although they offered to seat us immediately, we opted to have a drink in their small bar. Very nice. Good cocktails, both traditional and "house recipes". Bartender was friendly and helpful.
The service is very attentive without "hovering".
We've been there for both lunch and dinner. Lunch was good, but not really anything special. Dinner, however, was outstanding! Good wine selection, by the glass or bottle. Everyone enjoyed their entrees.
If you're looking for a nice, relaxing meal in South Haven, it's definitely worth the drive.

“A relaxing getaway!”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

We have been to Hawkshead 3 times over the past few years and have always found it to be excellent in every way.

We went to Hawkshead this time to get away from the work of selling our home, buying a new home, and moving all in about 3 weeks time! What a relief it was to arrive at Hawkshead and find our room ready, and the staff anxious to please.

We stayed for 5 nights and 4 days and enjoyed every minute of it! The food was excellent, the room serviced every day and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

The golf course is in excellent condition and we had no problem getting tee times.

We found the patio area to be delightful for having drinks or lunch, or just relaxing and watching all the comings and goings of the Inn and golf course.

The complimentary, continental breakfast served to our room each morning was delicious and tastefully laid out on a tray.

Since the Inn, restaurant and bar closes at 10:00, everything is locked up and the staff leaves for the night. If you are out after 10:00, it is necessary to use a special door which has a touch pad code on it. However, we were late arriving back at the inn one evening and one of the staff was just locking up at about 10:20. She saw us coming up the walk, recognized us and held the door for us and welcomed us back with a smile on her face.

Any questions we had were answered pleasantly. If we wanted something different with our meal, we were told, with a smile, "sure, we can do that".

We cannot think of one negative thing to say about our stay at Hawkshead. We highly recommend it and would like to go back sometime in the future.

“Have to give it a 5”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

We are from St. Louis, MO where 100 degree temps are just too high to golf so went online to find how far north we needed to drive at the last minute. Since Hawkshead Inn did not have 4 nights available in a row, we went up to Grand Haven then came back for our last night. We got two of the cheaper rooms, 7 and 9 so we were happy with the price and staying there get's you a discount on the golf rates. The rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable and the rolls and cinnamon butter on the breakfast tray where delicious!! The two people with me loved their bloody Mary drinks on the golf course. The staff whether when you first pull up, out on the course, the pro shop, the weenie window, the inn or the restaurant were the nicest and most eager to wait on you I've ever encounter in all my travels. We ordered off the menu for dinner instead of having their special of pasta night. A lot of locals came out, they had a singer/guitarist and sitting outside after dinner was pleasant. Two of us ordered the walleye and our friend ordered the steak. The steak was delicious with it's seasoning and searing. The walleye with it's topping was bland. My partner's walleye was bad with a strong fishing taste, we sent it back with no problem. In fact the chef sent our waitress back to see if my partner would like to order something different and she went with the steak. Again the bread, sides and dessert were delicious!! If in the area again we would play, stay and eat there and will recommend it. The course is kept in great shape and pleasant to play.

“Retreat away from the crowd”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

We needed a place for a last minute weekend and found Hawkshead Inn for $100 a night. Of course, it wasn't the biggest or best room but it was very clean and had everything we could want. Bed was comfortable. We didn't eat at the Inn so can't review the food. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Best of all, it was away from the crowds and very retreatful. It's a good location between South Haven and Saugatuck. We'd go back again.
