“Worth Leaving the Interstate”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

If you're looking for a classic B&B experience in a beautiful, historic home with gracious, accommodating hosts, the Brickhouse of Somerset is your place. My wife and I and our one-year old child enjoyed great food and refreshments and felt as comfortable as though we were visiting relatives or friends. I rarely write reviews but the Brichouse of Somerset deserves a strong endorsement and my family and I want to share ours with you.

What a surprise to find! So much more than the online photos reveal. Sandy has restored this stately house to perfection and outfitted the interiors authentically, with public rooms filled with period collections. Nary a reproduction here-and not the shabby chic charm of jumbled flea market finds. Beautifully restored woodwork abounds-great stairway, moldings and floors-covered with carefully selected Caucasian rugs in colors and sizes aesthetically arranged.

Gardens carefully composed; colors everywhere. And if it's a special treat you'd like, spend some time with Ron; who knows, he may just take out a half dozen bottles of rare 21 year-old single malts and suggest you try a few with him--

This is a really special place -- Sandy and Ron do this for fun; this is their house and it is not assembled with profit in mind, but rather with the hope of visiting with interesting people passing through.

If you happen to heading to the MIchigan International Speedway just a few miles down the road, you could not possibly do better!

Room Tip: We chose a room fronting Route 12, as the passing traffic didn't intrude, but a room across the...

For a second time, my adult son and I recently traveled back to our family's past at the Somerset Brickhouse B&B...and what wonderful experiences they were! This is the beautiful Victorian home of our ancesters...built in 1888 in tiny Somerset, Michigan. The world has passed this little town by, and it's setting is the lovely rolling farmland of the past...20 minutes south of the Interstate. Located in the Irish Hills along Old Route 12, we were near the Antiques Capital and wine country of the state and were not lacking for things to do and see.

The house itself, has been lovingly restored and maintained by its owner. The rooms are all exquisitely furnished with antiques, and the home itself offers comfortable sitting areas that display all kinds of interesting memorabilia. The seasons and holidays are appropriately celebrated with wonderful decorations.

The owner's warm welcome and helpful care was a delight with knowledgeable choices for restaurants and activities...and also, fresh baked cookies! The three breakfasts we enjoyed there were beautifully presented, interesting and delicious.

We have only the highest praise for the Brickhouse B&B and appreciation for its wonderful owner, who continues to be its devoted steward and gracious host.
