We loved spending Labor Day weekend here! So close to the Soo Locks and within walking distance of fun restaurants and pubs. We enjoyed opening the window in our room to hear the boats blow their horns while leaving the locks.

Really neat, historical hotel. I had a cozy, unique room with slanted windows and a perfect view of the Soo Locks. Perfect location-all the best places to eat/shop/visit are within walking distance. Staff was very nice, helpful with recomendations. Only downside to the stay was the breakfast. They give each guest a ticket for complimentary breakfasts during their stay, which is a nice idea-but I have seen better "free breakfast" at cheap, highway motels. Seriously. It was so bad on the first day, but I thought I would give it a go on day 2, to see if anything was different, but it was actually even worse. I skipped it for the rest of my stay--I found an excellent coffee shop a few minute walk down the road though, so I got my breakfast there! If breakfast doesn't matter to you, this is a perfect hotel for a stay in Sault Ste Marie!

Room Tip: get a room with a view of the river!

The hotel is beautiful, sure it needs a little spiffing up but overall we had a nice room. The location is great. They give you free coupons for the breakfast bar but we didn't even use the second days because the first experience was so bad. The waitresses were running around like chickens, there were 3 waitresses and maybe 8 tables filled but you had to ask for a cup of coffee refilled. Mind you most were staying at the hotel and had the coupons so they didnt have to take any orders either. We had to ask for a menu for our son who came to eat with us and then catch the waitress to tell her he was ready to order. He had blueberry pancakes that he couldn't finish because the middle wasn't cooked. The food in the breakfast bar was lukewarm at best. We went to a nice place down the street and got a piping hot breakfast for 3 for under $30.00. Never had to ask for my cup to be refilled! We had a similar experience last year and heard there were new owners and hoped things had improved, they haven't.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Ojibway. It is right next to the Locks and has beautiful views from some of the rooms and the restaurant. The included breakfast was much better than at most hotels. We also really enjoyed some of the older features of the hotel. I do not often see hotels any more that have the little laundry lines in the shower. The people that worked there were also very helpful and friendly. I would love to stay there much longer.

Room Tip: If you can get a room on the water side, I know the view is great. I have not seen the city side v...

Built in 1927, this hotel is located in the heart of the downtown district, and directly across the street from the soo locks park. We asked for a room with a view of the locks, and were given 509, which does have an obstructed view of the locks and has an awesome view of the quaint downtown, and of the international bridge to Canada.
The decor of the hotel is a little dated, but everything was very clean, and the staff was super nice. The pool was great as well, with giant towels instead of the standard tiny hotel towels. Also, sault Ste Marie was not full of new hotels. It was all mom and pop hotels by the locks, so despite the dated decor at the ojibway, it definitely appeared to be the nicest in the area. Also it comes with a free breakfast in the hotel restaurant, which is a nice perk. Also loved that the windows in the room.opened for fresh air. Although, as a warning to light sleepers, Evon the 5th floor we could hear a lot of stretch noise, as this historic building is built right up to the sidewalk. However the noise didn't bother me and we enjoyed watching the people and the shops.

The Hotel Ojibway boasts guests such as former President George Bush Sr. and having been in operation since 1927 where affluent guests wanting relief from Hay Fever would come to enjoy the fresh air floating in off of Lake Superior. We visited last weekend while attending my 25th High School Reunion. 25 years ago, the hotel underwent significant renovations and a former classmate was the executive chef and eventually went on to be a very successful executive chef for a world-wide hotel franchise. We booked this hotel because of my fond memories of Sunday brunch and fine a la carte dining. Our rate of $150 per night included breakfast which consisted of three chafing dishes containing petrified scrambled eggs, rubber bacon, and bland, tasteless hash browns. We asked our waitress if there was the option to order off the menu, and we were told they only served the buffet. Bottom line, whoever owns this property has neglected it to the point of no return. Good luck trying to save this ship from sinking......

Loved the location of this hotel - literally next to the park area of the locks. The rooms are a little dated decoration wise (think Laura Ashley). However ours was very uniquely configured which was really cool and over looked locks (although trees do block view partially) and park area - very nice - especially at night. Our room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. The restaurant had great food for dinner. Breakfast was included (limited menu but good choices). Would definitely stay here again.
