It's not what we expected. It's quaint. It's not a big museum and may be more suitable for children.

I understand they moved into the new location in the last couple of years and in that time they have done a great job with the displays. We were pressed for time as they were closing at 5, so I didn't get to read all the displays, but the ones I did read were very educational. The gift shop was also very nice and had some display items in a case from the Johnston family (early settler). There was also a Native American conference center in another room that had nice Native American art on display and a large library collection of Native American works. Would return if the opportunity arose.

The place is a small museum that relates to the founders of Sault Ste Marie and Chippewa people. They give you these electronic sticks that tell the story of each place you visit. My complaint on this is Each one goes on forever. The first one we listened to lasted almost 15 minutes. The narrative are a to long and could use shortening. Other than that the place was nice. They have some nice artifacts and some things that make you wonder why they are there. They do offer a explanation of things alongside the objects. Overall I think it was worth the money without the narrative.

I was not sure to put this at a 2 star rating, maybe it is a 3...but I did not think it worth our time, nor the $5.50 entrance fee (per person). The staff was very friendly, and the old building is architecturally interesting. The displays are okay, but I have to admit, boring. The settler's cabin is good. The auditory, done in story form, is good too, but who really sits long enough to listen to them all? The gift shop is okay also, and there is a AAA discount, but be sure to ask/show your card. Is a place to stop if you are alone or with another adult, if you really like history ( I do..), but not worth paying for kids, or a large group of people.
