“OK, loud but really nice.”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Second stay at Bella Vita, we really like the "downtown" location. Yes, there's a bar below the place that is loud till 2am, but put on the white noise and drink a bottle of wine and you're OK. That's probably an extreme - we kept the windows open the first night and it was loud, closed them the second and with white noise it was fine. Owner told me "If you want crickets, go to a country B & B." We like the place, and will be back.

we really enjoyed staying here, the room was very nicely decorated, the bed was great, the bathroom was fun, my husband mentioned how great the shower was! It was so easy just to go outside- and everything is right there. The only complaint I have that the kitchen could be better equipped, i did not like the plastic cutlery. There was noise from the street and we just had to close the window at night.

One of my friends and I decided to go a girl's trip to the west coast.....of Michigan. I had stayed at this hotel previously with my husband in a different suite (we were in the PIedmont this time), but this was the only one available for the weekend we wanted to go. We needed two beds, but this room had a bed and fold-out sofa, so it worked for us. It's a small room with a little kitchenette and a wonderful bathroom (like the previous room we stayed in).

Bella Vita is tough to find - but having been there before, I knew how it was tucked away in the heart of downtown Saugatuck and had tight parking, but it's really a little gem. The innkeeper is such a nice guy - promptly greeted us upon arrival, made some nice recommendations, gave us directions. Warm and personable.

The spa is very nice - well-appointed with a friendly, warm staff. We had mani-pedis and the service and quality was nice. A little pricey, but to be expected for a spa.

I would have given Bella Vita a "5" but the parking is tight and the rooms are small - but again, it's a nice place, lovely linens, great mattress, bathroom is spacious, beautifully decorated. Noise was not a problem at all for us. I would stay here again - I've stayed at several places in the Saugatuck-Douglas area over the past twenty years and Bella Vita is definitely the nicest hotel I've stayed at in this area.

We stayed in one of the downstairs suites (Taurino?). We liked that it wasn't in front of the building (in our first visit to this property we stayed in one of the suites upstairs in front of the building - we found them to be loud) so the foot traffic by our place was minimal.

Overall, the room was very nice. Very comfy king bed, and easy to unpack and settle in for our 5 night stay. A few things that could use improving:
- When the spa is open upstairs, it was REALLY loud in our room from the footsteps up above. I swear, sometimes it sounded like they were moving furniture up there -- we could hear everything. It's not how I enjoy getting woken up and its so loud that its impossible to go back to sleep.
- Kitchenette area was nice, but a few more things would have made it feel more usable. We had to go buy plastic silverware, bowls, and coffee filters in order to enjoy breakfast in the room. Would be nice to have some staples in the room (all that was available were two plates and 2 coffee mugs, both kind of unusable on their own).
- One of our light bulbs was out in our shower and we let them know - never was fixed, making for a dark shower! Granted we only asked once, but should we have to ask more than that?
- Throughout our entire stay our floor was never vacuumed - this was very noticeable given sand (from the beach or crumbs from breakfast) we could see on dark carpeting, etc. Toward the end it started to gross me out.

Overall, we love Saugatuck and would consider staying here again due to location, the comfort of the king bed and the overall size of the room. What may sway me is the noise from the spa above. It was out of control. I live in Chicago and one of the things I look forward to the most when getting away is peace and quiet, which this place did not offer after 9am.

One last bonus - you do get priority seating at Everyday People Cafe which is a huge bonus!! Thank you for that bella vita!

Room Tip: If you get up early, the noise from the spa shouldn't bother you (no later than 8am).

My husband and I stayed at the wicks park condo for one night. The condo had a really nice location in downtown saugatuck and is decorated in a beachy style. They advertise wireless internet and air conditioning but there were baseboard heaters and no central air vents or thermostats that we could find. There were no window air conditioners either. As a result we were very hot at night. Unfortunately all of the office staff leave at 7 so there was no one to call to get help with this issue. They also advertised that they had wireless internet which we needed because we own a business and had to keep in touch with work however no one at the management office new the access code or SSID for the condo. Their website also says cable TV so we were expecting at least a standard cable package but it is BASIC cable and we only got about 10 stations. It would have been nice if they had a TV in the bedroom as well but there was only one in the living room. As I said it is nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable but there were so many things that were advertised that just weren't in the condo that it just left us feeling disappointed.

I have been to this town several times for weekend getaways with friends. This hotel was by far one of the best. The hotel offers a variety of accomodations (houses, flats, apartments, rooms). I would suggest that you speak directly with the owner (Kevin) when making your reservation if you have concerns. He will listen to your expectations, try to understand what type of trip you are planning and then make every attempt to help you select the best rental choice.

We stayed in Flat A. It was spacious, clean and comfortable for our group. Yes, there was noise from the bar, Kilwins, and the street below, but we were also noisy and up late so it was not an issue. The convenience of walking out our door and being in the heart of town was a good trade off for the noise.

We also visited the spa and found the staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: The flats will be noisy but they are very nice.

We stayed here for a night in the Roma suite, it was fabulous! Very clean and comfortable. The location was amazing and we had a romantic evening walking through town. The only complaint was the "treats" that were left in the room- folgers coffee and sugary muffins were just not fitting in this spa like atmosphere. Starbucks coffee would've been appreciated but the room was beautiful regardless.
