The Ship and Shore was a way cool place. Our 1st encounter there was in the winter. They had it decorated with light's and the fireplaces going ( very cozy ).The docks outside were really neat.I have no complaints about the Ship and Shore. We actually have been back a 1/2 dozen times and alway's been great fun ( we enjoy quite) never had a loud experience.sorry for the folk's that had that experience.I highly recommemd it.

My friend and I just stayed at the Ship n' Shore last week. We started out with one of the rooms on the dock. The room was small, but clean. The problem we had was that any boat can pull up and dock in front of your room. They just have to pay to park. That is what happaned to us about and hour after we got there. You are so close to the dock that we could hear every word that they said, plus they totally blocked our view from the river. We also had people that were in the room next to us that were out on the dock most of the day. The rooms are just too close. We asked to be moved. The front desk did find us a room closer to the main part of the motel. That was fine, except that room was only available for one night. We were staying for two. So the second night we had to be moved again. To top it off 30 very loud and rude women showed up the first night and were so loud the police had to be called. They pretty much took over the common area of the motel the second night to continue the noise. I would not stay there again. If you want peace and quiet this is not the motel for you. If you like to paryt GO FOR IT!!!!!!!

The Ship n Shore has a beautiful location and surrounding gardens. We love Saugatuck and didn't need to move our car all weekend since the motel's location is so perfect you can walk anywhere in town. The outside gardens and pool are immaculate. The disappointment comes in the room. New linens are apparent in the hotel overall, but the cold cinderblock walls and outdated chipping bathrooms where disappointing. The rooms are spare with little decor. Our room had a small TV with basic cable on top of a mini fridge, an outdoor metal chair set in the room, and an entire mirrored wall. It was pretty thrown together. There was no head board, so our pillows kept sliding behind the bed. It wasn't a room you wanted to spend any time in. We sat outside in the gardens overlooking the river most of the time anyway. It seemed a little pricey for the quality of the rooms, but if you don't plan on being in the room, you can't beat the location and the gardens.

Stayed at the Ship n Shore for 3 nights in July and loved the location, can't get any more convenient to town and attractions.

The motel is a bit dated, especially the bathroom, but the room was spacious, the bed very comfortable and the grounds are beautiful with many little private spots to sit and relax, right on the Kalamazoo river.

Our room was a little damp and musty when we checked in so we turned up the a/c and burned a scented candle, no problem.

Tried to spend some time in their pool and hot tub but the little kids (or was it their parents?) were using it as a playpen most of the day. One kid jumped on me while I was swimming, ouch! Big sign at the hot tub: no children under 10 allowed in the tub, wish the parents were more attentive. Finally got into the hot tub around 9 but that area closes at 10! We asked for and were given a reprieve until 11 and really appreciated that.

We enjoyed our stay at the Ship n Shore and would stay there again.

  • Liked — The location and price
  • Disliked — Unsupervised kids (however I don't thing that is the motels responsibility).

My husband & I stayed at the Ship & Shore motel for our 10 yr wedding anniversary. We were fortunate enough to have a room on the water by the harbour. The rooms were small but we were not unplesant. The atmosphere was so very relaxing and the location is great. We plan to spend our anniversay there every year now.

We enjoyed the location, the pool, and the hot tub. Another plus is the fridge in the hotel room.
I wouldn't return unless we got an upper level room. We had a ground level room and the carpet and room seemed perpetually soggy. Cleanliness was okay; fine for slumming it with the kids. We also made the mistake of not requesting a non-smoking room (I just assume every place is non-smoking anymore--not so!). I immediately opened the windows to air the place out when we got there, but had to suffer through stale cigarette smoke somewhat.
There were some ground level floors farther out, right on the dock, that looked like they might be nice. Don't know if the sogginess problem was just related to our room or not, which was toward the entrance of the hotel, behind the office.
The breakfast the next day was convenient but just so-so. Bagels, fruit, generic cinnamon buns, that sort of thing.
Romantic and glamorous? By no means. But a good enough place for a relatively inexpensive family vacation.

My experience was absolutely wonderful!! My room had the perfect view, the staff was so helpful and friendly. Reasonably priced rooms, and the location is one in a million. The pool is very nice, plenty of room to sit by the water. The landscaping is beautiful as well as the padios that they have. The kids had a blast, would love to come back with just my husband. All around a wonderful establlishment. I would most definietly recommend staying here.
