I love the Ship 'n Shore if you can ever get a room. It is one of the few hotels that has a pool and is withing walking distance of everything. Other reviewers are correct that it is an older place and could use some updating. Rooms are small and there is not one fancy thing about the place but who goes there to stay in the room. It is great to be able to sit by the pool after shopping and have a cocktail before dinner. Restaurants are all withing walking distance. Saugatuck is an amazing little town and Oval Beach (which is a short car ride) is one the most beautiful beaches I have seen. At this part of Lake Michigan you can walk the beach for miles.

Saugatuck is a great getaway for couples, families or friends. Perfect girls weekend spot.

Room Tip: There are no elevators that I remember so keep that in mind. I like the first floor just for proxim...

Was at the ship n shore this past May, and I liked it so much, I re-booked for October....my room was right on the water...clean and ready for me...the owners are very nice, and their breakfast offers everything freshly done...bagels, cereals, oatmeal, cinnamin rolls, orange juice, milk, coffee, and fresh fruits....This place is older, but the atmosphere is wonderful...yes, it could use some upgrades, but this is a comfortable place to stay...the rates are reasonable, and everyone I met their has been as friendly as the day is long....

Room Tip: rooms 37 - 40 are right on the dock, and offer the best views of the water...I always stay in one of...

We stayed one night on the way back to Chicago. The room was great with a view over the pool to the river. It was really clean but as people have said, could do with a bit of a re-fit. The carpet was very old and the lighting was a bit lacking near the wardrobe. That said for the money and location it was a great stay. The free breakfast is enough to set you up and the staff were good. The pool was lovely but I imagine it is really busy in high season. It is an easy walk into town.

This is not a fancy hotel, but the location is great and the room is a good value. The pool and hot tub are very nice and the hosts are very accommodating. I will stay here again on our next trip to Saugatuck.

This is an older hotel, But clean. Nothing Fancy, but it is right on the water so you get to watch the boats go by on their way out to Lake Michigan. Everything is in walking distance. Great shops, and wonderful restaurants. This hotel has a nice garden and pool, and very friendly staff. We have stayed there twice and would recommend it.

Room Tip: If you only need one queen bed. There are 4 rooms right down by the water. #39, and #40 are great.

Stayed at Ship & Shore August 2013 for a nice long weekend with my honey for our birthdays. We loved it totally! It's very retro, which I love. VERY clean, VERY friendly staff, CLEAN Pool & Jacuzzi, Very Nice continental breakfast. Bathroom was a bit small, but as I said..CLEAN! Lovely garden area to sit and relax or eat breakfast. Nice to walk out the door and be right in the action and exlore downtown Saugatuck. Close to restaurants, Chain Ferry, and beautiful view of Kalamazoo River and all of the NICE boats docking and going past. I loved the retro-ness of it all...kept waiting for Elvis to pop out with his guitar by the pool with some bikini clad, Beaufont-haired ladies! Totally, totally loved it. Pricey but well worth it in my opinion. Location, location, location! Booked for next year!!!! Can't wait!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for 2nd floor room for best view. 2nd floor overlooking Garden is a little more private than 2n...

On the River, watching boats go by, clean rooms, clean pool, garden area to eat a nice, full continental breakfast, relaxing, nice staff, and walk to everything. i have stayed at a couple of places on the river at Saugatuck, and I like the Bayside but you need a 3 night stay, and I like the resort across the river, but it is across the river and once the chain ferry closes, you have a 15 minute drive home. but at the ship and shore, you can walk anywhere, safely. Love the food options in saugatuck, especially marros for their cheesy, garlic rolls, wow, would love an order right now. And walked to the Mason Street Theater for a fun play, not to mention ice cream on the way home. Great little deli with lots of wine and cheese selections 2 doors down. I mean really, this is a great resort town so close to Grand Rapids that it is crazy I don't come here more often. That being said, the Ship and Shore is a perfect location to relax, watch the boats and have a good night sleep. Room is a bit small, but clean, white and fresh decor, except the bathroom which is older decor, but charming. All rooms have a river view and I like the second floor for better viewing. Pool is clean and refreshing right by the water, great for happy hours. I totally feel like Im rambling, but ready to go back in a heartbeat. Even a one night get-a-way is worth it.

Room Tip: Second floor for better view, if a boat is moored to the dock, you wont see the boats go by. I like...
