“Location, Ambience, Service and the BEST BREAKFAST!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

I have visited South Cliff Inn and "Mr. Bill" a few times over the years and brought two of my friends up to celebrate our 60th- these past 4 days. We shared the Admiral's Suite- the only accommodation to fit three( a queen and a very comfortable pullout) It was very comfy and was like having our own small apartment with no view but ground floor entrance and close to parking. We enjoyed the alfresco dining with our delicious breakfast ( YES, 5 STARS, Bill!) every morning as the weather and VIEW of Lake Michigan was perfect. The lakefront deck through the gardens served as our "perch" about every afternoon to enjoy the complimentary wine and cheese. The house itself and grounds are very quaint and most conducive for that relaxed feel. Bill serves not only as proprietor and Chef, but also as tour guide assistance and restaurant critic. We sampled restaurants Ry Bell( beautiful upper open deck and vantage lake view with music) Silver Beach Pizza( thin crusted awesomeness), the open deck restaurant at Tabor Hill Winery(BONUS-Norman Love CHOCOLATES for sale!)and Gran Mere- beautiful upscale dining overlooking Lake Michigan and GREAT Martinis! We spent an afternoon at Silver Beach- COLD water but delightfully fine sand and beach atmoshere! ALL of these places-PLUS SHOPPING at cute boutique type stores- a very short drive from South Cliff Inn. My friends became smitten with the area AND the people as well. But nothing beat coming home to the comfort and HOSPITALITY of our B&B- which belongs to the Michigan Lake-to-Lake association and is the professional guideline for the BEST PLACES! We'll be back!

South Cliff Inn has a great location, looking out over Lake Michigan. Although we did not opt for a lake view room, you will have ample opportunity to see the Lake... From the enclosed sun porch, or from two different decks. The room is comfortable and breakfasts are delicious, with plenty of food.
For me, the best part was being able to park the car and not get in it until we left. There is beach access two blocks away, so you are no more than a 10 minute walk to Lions Beach. It is about a (beautiful) mile walk to downtown St. Joe, along a bluff over looking the Lake. And since parking is always a hassle there, it was nice to walk and go!

Room Tip: If you can't climb stairs, be sure and mention it when you make your reservation.

This place is super! The Inn overlooks Lake Michigan and the sunset is breathtaking. The home (c1925) maintains many of its original features. Bill the Innkeeper has done a great job in the restoration and ongoing management of the Inn. He is a true professional. Wine and cheese was set out to enjoy with the sunset. We have stayed in many B & B's from coast to coast. I have never experienced a better breakfast in a 5 start hotel.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are excellent. The two upstairs on the back side overlook Lake Michigan with a bal...

My husband and I have stayed twice at South Cliff Inn, once in the summer and now once in February. There is a wonderful view of Lake Michigan in any season. This visit we stayed in the Sunset Room, which has a balcony overlooking the gardens and the Lake. Outstanding room! Bill and Mark are very welcoming, and the breakfast is huge and amazing. If you go away hungry it is your own fault! Bill is also very knowledgeable about the area and can give tips on restaurants and things to do. We will definitely stay here again.

I loved this place. The atomsphere was so peaceful and the view of Lake Michigan was just so beautiful. Our room was right off the dining area with a table right next to our door. That was my fault. First when inquiring I should of asked for its location..we ended up our second night listening to two couples drinking and laughing for 2 hours not much sleep that night...Second I should of asked about the bed if the mattress was a thick one. This mattress was only 7 inches thick...no joke. My joints ached so bad for the two days there... This was not the inkeepers fault this was mine for not asking. I am sure he would of fit us with the right room if I would of asked but I did not. The inkeeper Bill was the best host and each morning he greeted us with a delightful breakfast that left you full and happy...

Room Tip: ask where the room is located...if its near the kitchen or outside deck, pool or dining area cause fo...

My husband and I stayed here for a short getaway from Chicago. We stayed in the admiral room which has a living area with couches great for reading, a private entrance, a whirlpool tub and shower and a comfortable bedroom. Everything was wonderful. The innkeepers were very helpful and nice and breakfast was great! My husband and I look forward to going to South Cliff Inn again this winter for another romantic getaway!
