Clean, old home, with a lot of character. Nicely appointed and comfortable room with a cozy bed. I enjoyed the flat screen tv with HBO. Nice view of the Straights and Lake Huron. I really liked the second floor balcony/porch you could sit out on. The house did not have central air, and it would have been nice if the air had been on when I got there, because it was a hot day. Breakfast was kind of bland, not the best I have ever had. Innkeeper was very nice though and she was concerned about my comfort while there.

Expensive B & B with below average breakfast and accomodations. Nothing to write home about. Hotel attached to the exterior is a dump.

The Colonial House is a combination B&B and Mom and Pop type motel. We stayed in the motel and found it to be clean and comfortable and it met our needs. Breakfasts were handy and economical next door at B'nL Cafe (Bentley's)...a step back into the 50s. Peeking into an open room in the main house showed a beautiful accommodation. The outside of the place could use some work, but it is obvious that the owners take extra care with the inside. Colonial House is directly across from the Arnold ferry dock and convenient to the town Board Walk. We had never stayed on the northern ferry route to Mackinac Island and found it less hectic and touristy than Mackinaw City. If you are staying off the island to save money, consider the cost of ferrying back and forth each day. We did so with bikes ($) and decided that we didn't save much, especially since we much prefer staying on the island.

We wanted to avoid the too touristy Mackinaw City and didn't want to spend extra to stay on Mackinaw Island, so we chose to stay in St. Ignace. The Colonial Inn was a great value. Our room was large and comfortable with a small sitting room and bathroom. The whole place was very clean and up-to-date. It is close to the ferries, shopping, and restaurants. The Kewadin casino is 10 minutes away. St. Ignace is pretty quiet, but if you want to whoop it up, you can cross the bridge to Mackinaw City.

The interior of the Colonial House Inn is loaded with Victorian charm and spotlessly clean. Our third floor room was comfortable and a bargain at $89 per night, including breakfast. The bathroom was clean and amply supplied with towels and toiletries. Our breakfasts were excellent--the owner is an accomplished and imaginative cook. The location--just across the street from the ferry to Mackinac Island and within walking distance of several restaurants--could not be better. We parked our car behind the inn and didn't use it again until the day we left. The exterior of the inn is a different story. When my husband and I arrived, having read nothing but glowing reviews on Trip Advisor, we almost decided to forfeit our two nights and find another place. The outside badly needs repair and repainting, and the weeds had completely overgrown what looks to be otherwise a lovely garden. To be fair, we arrived just after the annual St. Ignace car show, during which the inn had been fully occupied, and no doubt the owners were kept extremely busy cooking and cleaning, with no time to devote to gardening. But someone driving by looking for a place to stay would have kept right on driving. We're glad we didn't leave, and we enjoyed our stay, but the exterior caused me to rate the inn a "3" overall, even though I gave it a "4" or a "5" on everything else.

We stayed here for our 25th wedding anniversary last July, and it was a wonderful experience!

We were on the second floor, in the Cherry View room. It was decorated in roses and antiques, and had a lovely sitting room. It was 100% clean and comfortable, and the homemade breakfast each morning was just delicious, and served in a beautiful dining area.

But most of all, our hostess was welcoming, friendly and gracious, and very accomodating to our teenage son, (we had to bring him at the last minute) who was staying over in the motel section. So there is a place for everyone here.

I'd highly recommend this B & B to any couple (No young children under 12 allowed) looking for a special and unique place to stay in St. Ignace!

What an enjoyable stay! This was a first time visit to this Inn and my family and I were not disappointed. We had 2 rooms, the Ivory and Maple, located on the 3rd floor. Both were quaint and comfortable. Both had some view of the Straits of Mackinac. St Ignace is much more laid back and less touristy than Mackinaw City, so we will be repeat vacationers to this lovely town. The staff at the Inn were very pleasant and helpful. (Thanks, Melanie!) The breakfast was delicious and filling. The Inn would have received 5 stars, but the veranda and front porch needed cleaning (lots of cobwebs and dirt) and the snacks and refreshments listed as free in the dining room were not there. Only 3 cans of soda and 1 can of diet soda. I hope the Inn owners will remedy those situations, but my family and I will be repeat customers here. A great room for a great price!!
