Recommended length of visit: <1 hour
Owner description: At this National Historic Landmark, visitors can learn about 17th century St. Ignace: the Ojibwa who formed the population, the Huron refugees and the French who established the area as the center of fur trade. Check out our award winning Clan Park, the beautiful new Sculpture Park and our Longhouse on our grounds. Also visit Father Marquettes burial site in our Marquette Mission Park. Admission is by donation. Must be seen to be believed! Amazing!

Their museum has so much information on Ojibwa, Huron, and Native American culture and history. Unexpected was to find the grave of Father Marquette at the same site with much information on him and his history.

We couldn't believe how much culture could be packed into this free museum. We enjoyed watching a televised program on building a birch bark canoe and another on there family traditions and culture. We saw a lot of the Ojibwa crafts and information on how they did these crafts. We also purchased some hand made items as gifts. One could easily spend a couple of hours here.

Visited the shop again, looking for new things and I found many. Love the Sister Sky natural products, esp the one for the headaches. And found a beautiful pair of quill earrings for my wife. The clerk was very nice and when I asked about the Ojibwa's, she answered all my questions and then some.
Will keep coming back.

This museum is small but gives you a real sense of the material culture of the Ojibwa. I learned a few things about the impact of French fur trapping and missionaries in the region as well. My boys liked looking at how the natives made things.
