Kewadin Shores Casino and Hotel
Ranked #23 of 29 Hotels in Saint Ignace
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We stayed here on our way to Mackinac Island and quickly found that St. Ignace has a limited amount of attractions so it was nice to stay somewhere with evening entertainment. The hotel also has a nice indoor pool and hot tub that we took advantage of. Our room was spacious and relatively comfortable. The casino gives you "free play" when you check in so you can enjoy some gambling without even spending any money. We of course did later spend our own money, but we enjoyed the low betting limits and remained entertained for several hours, ultimately leaving with more money in our pockets than we walked in with.

Stayed four nights with family, this was great. The hotel room was spacious, clean, modern and very comfortable. Beds were just right for firmness and soft. We had a balcony room (only 6 on each floor) upgrade, so our view was tremendous, looking over the spacious lawn which leads down into Lake Huron. Bathrooms very clean, modern with all the amenities you'd find in a chain hotel. The casino was a little smokey (it's a casino, after all!) but not bad - it never seemed to "drift" into the rest of the hotel or lobby. Casino staff was equally friendly and fun, like everyone else there; typical UP hospitality! Location is great, in that you're only a couple of minutes from the shops and restaurants in St. Ignace, yet you're away from the hustle of tourist traffic. Very easy access from the highway. Overall, loved this place - and was the least expensive hotel we found for July!

Room Tip: Join the Northern Rewards players program: we received a $10 PER DAY slots credit!

Only stayed one night on way to final destination. The rooms are nicely appointed and clean. The bed was very comfortable. We had a handicaped room with a "roll in" shower. Be sure to put a towel on floor as some water went beyond the edge of the shower floor but was not too bad. For wheelchair access, the bathroom was very spacious. But as in most hotels we have stayed in recently, the toilet seat was a bit loose and moved slightly when sitting down. Could be an issue for elderly people not steady of their legs. Our room on the first floor had a nice little balcony that looked out to the lake, but no access to the grounds. Be sure to look online for packages. We also found out that after earning a required number of points we would earn free play and also be reimbursed for cost of crossing the Mackinac Bridge by taking the toll receipt to the casino club desk.

The two queen room was spacious and very clean. My wife and I were traveling with our 18 month old son so the refrigerator and microwave in the room came in handy. The pool area is large with lots of tables and chairs. Unlike a lot of hotels the pool is open from 8 AM to 10 PM so a morning swim before check out is possible. The water was a little cool and the towels are very small. I would bring my own beach towel next time. The staff was very friendly. The price of $70.00 with $20.00 of casino play and $10.00 in gas makes it that much better. I would stay again with out hesitation.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view.

We spent 2 nights at this wonderful hotel. We had a king room and it was wonderful. The bed was comfortable the room was spotless and the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was truly amazing. Very inexpensive very good food. We ate every meal there! All the staff were friendly and helpful and the casino was also fun and friendly. With the casino perks the rooms were a bargain and we highly recommend this great hotel. The pool was beautiful and we had it to ourselves for 2 hours! We did not get rich in the casino, but enjoyed spending our daily gambling budget! Our room overlooked Lake Huron which was beautiful, even covered with ice.

Room Tip: Go for the Lakefront rooms!

The price was great. For 70 dollars we got yen dollars each to gamble and ten dollars for gas and our room. The staff treated us amazing! The bar staff was great and the casino staff on the gaming floor were friendly! Great experience!

Hotel Operations: Clean, large rooms, and ask for the lake view for beautiful accommodations. Our second experience at this property confirms that the hotel operations is most worthy of reliable accommodations for the area and I highly recommend it. The restaurant comes with mixed reviews but having gone to approx. 2 dozen+ casinos in the midwest, this property's restaurant is par for the course as far as casino buffets. The food is entirely acceptable for "casino food" but the view you get of the lake gives this restaurant the edge many similar casino restaurants. The food "likeability" is entirely subjective but I found that if I didn't like one fod selection there were plenty of other options, including can't go wrong, soup and salad bar.

Judging the property by its hospitality accommodations, it is first rate and highly recommended. Unfortunately, similar to our last visit last year, the casino just doesn't crack up to the first rate accommodations. There's not a lot of atmosphere and even though I have been in worse casinos by far, there are just too many "dead spots" in this casino where there is no slot activity and the tables generate no excitement. Slots generating no usage should be replaced and employees working the area should look a little more enthusiastic.

Clearly this is a property which continues to show the same management issues. Above average hotel accommodations, acceptable restauarant operations and below average casino gaming experience. There's no reason why the casino can't elevate its operations given more aggressive floor imagination to match the rest of the property!

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms should be requested! Beautiful view with private porch in all rooms
