This may have changed since I was there last, but everything seemed a little "sticky".... salt shakers, pepper shakers, etc. I only get a very basic burger and fries and these are ala carte there (or were).

I can't help but think the local fans are boosting the hyperbole a wee bit when reviewing the Red Coat Tavern. It's not that this is a bad restaurant, it really doesn't offer much value especially when the main grub is burgers and fries. A hamburger, fries and soft drink will set you back about $14 a person. Meh!

Let's start with the decor: Dark and very cramped. I suppose just like a Revolutionary War tavern should be. I can deal with that.

Food: The most popular burger is the Red Coat Special and, with a slice of cheese and included toppings, it will set you back a hair under $8. It's a very good burger, well above average, but it's not great. The best part was the excellent beef taste that hits your mouth at first bite. I asked for mine cooked medium-rare, it was served very rare. Bottom line: not worth $8 bucks a burger.
French fries are about $4.50 for a medium plate full. Not a huge serving for the price. Mine arrived very cold. Unbelievable that fries that cold would be served. The waiter took them back and brought out a piping hot dish. Much better but still not worth $4.50 a plate. Skip the fries, get the onion rings.
Onion rings were $5.65 a plate. They were greasy good but not really worth the elevated price. IMHO, Sonic makes better onion rings at half the price.
Fish and chips: Two mediocre sized pieces of quality cod with cold fries underneath and a bowl of decent coleslaw cost $14. Skip it, not worth it.

Service: Excellent. No qualms at all. Quick and efficient.

Crowd: Loud locals, sports team locals, picture taking locals...

Bottom Line: Very good burgers. Expensive for what you get. Not that big a deal. I think the local Red Coats are serving up some propaganda....

This restaurant is by far one of our all time favorites. We have family that fly in from other parts of the country at lunch time just so we will swing by this place to eat! Martinis great but the hamburgers are their best and you have to have their FRIED Onions! To die for. We always end with the Saunders Fudge Cream Puff - just a must have. Enjoy, you won't be sorry - the only thing to remember.....bring your sunglasses...because when you leave the dark cozy restaurant, sunshine outside will blind you!

I am not that fond of onion rings, but Red Coat's are wonderful. I go there just for them. Atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, very cramped and dark, but then it is a tavern

Red Coat has been around for a long time. It is always busy and for good reason. Get the original Red Coat Burger the way it comes, split some fries and onion rings. You will not go away disappointed. There are other things on the menu but the burger is the best
