Description: Established in 2005.O'Connor's was designed and built by the Prairie Pub Company, one of only five Guinness approved authentic Irish pub builders in the world. The finished pub was shipped to the States and reassembled in the historical downtown district of Rochester Michigan.Stop by and enjoy some of the of history in this Irish pub. Some particular items to take special notice of are the floor located in the main bar area dating back more than 140 years, also the the stone wall separating the dinning area from the bar was once an exterior wall, now recovered offering a soft rustic feel. You will also notice stain glass and wrought iron in the pub which was harvested from crumbling churches through out Ireland.

Gus O'Connors is just fun. Good fish and chips - good drink prices. Lots of seating options.

The title pretty much sums up my experience at Gus O'connors. The pub itself is spacious and well laid out. It features the typical look and feel of a faux Irish pub with a nice long, well stocked bar and a vast number of taps. My first and only complaint with this pub was the shockingly disappointing choices of beer they offer on tap. Yes you will find all the generic Guinness owned Irish beer as well as the typically uninspired generic American beer. However, Michigan alone has over 100 microbreweries and many of them churn out several great brews. I could easily fill all the restaurants and pubs in Rochester with different Michigan beer and almost all of them would be better than the typical generic offerings. So if you're going for the beer, head over to Rochester Mills Beer Co. OK, beer rant aside, the rest of my experience at Gus O'Connor's was very pleasant. The staff were super friendly, attentive, and went out of the way for us. Not just my server but all of the staff were fantastic. I had the Irish Trinity, which featured a generous gut-busting sampling of the Irish Stew, Sheppard's Pie, and Chicken Pot Pie. If that wasn't enough it also came with fresh baked bread and garlic mashed potatoes. All three dishes were as authentic as I've ever tasted. The best dish, hands down, was the Guinness Stew, everyone who tried it agreed. If you're a sports fan you'll be hard pressed to find a table which doesn't have a TV within eye-shot. This is only bad if you're on a date with a non-fan, in which case you should consider a table in the room by the back door entrance or another choice of date. In short, beer selection aside, O'Connor's is a good place to watch the game and have some good home-style Irish food but without quality ales to wash the experience down its just another faux Irish pub.

I arrived at Gus O'Connor's early, 4:45pm on a Wednesday, after a previous appointment in downtown Rochester. At that time, there were probably only 5 other customers there besides myself. I sat at the bar and watched the end of the Tiger game and then SportsCenter, enjoying a couple Guinness. By about 6, I ordered dinner, the Guinness stew, and it was excellent. I highly recommend it. I stayed until about 7, having 3 beers and dinner. By then, it was starting to get more busy. During my entire time there, the staff was friendly and sociable. In addition, several nearby bar patrons were also very friendly, making for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
