I was there many years ago. Well maintained and enjoyable. Thinking about going back sometime because I live nearby and forgot much about it.

“Wish I could live here!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

It is so beautiful!! So many rooms, so much interesting history. You get to see most of the house on a regular tour, the bedrooms, living areas, dinning room etc.
I will be going back to see the holiday displays (40 Xmas tress) and to do the behind the scene tour. That is when you get to see all the lil hidden extras in the house the hidden staircase, the children's playrooms, the 4th floor.
The ground are also very beautiful, it must see if in the area.

“Beautiful Grand Home of a Bygone Era”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Meadowbrook Hall is a true gem not to be missed when visiting the Detroit area. The home is the fourth largest historical home in the country, and yet it is surprisingly welcoming. The attention to architectural detail is exquisite both on the exterior and interior. The ceiling in the dining room is the most beautiful artistry in plaster you will ever see. The home is in outstanding condition and the docents are very knowledgeable and can answer questions about the architecture as well as relate the many interesting stories about the Wilson/Dodge family. All of the art work and furnishings are original to the home.

The gardens are spectacular if visiting May thru September. A self guided Christmas walk is offered every year, although you miss some great stories told by docents; but the holiday decorations are beautiful. Depending on the season, you can also tour the play house down a wooded trail all done in 3/4 scale with working plumbing and electric.

“A walk back in time - MeadowBrook Mansion”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Tour the magnificent MeadowBrook Mansion to see an example of how the wealthy magnets of industry lived in the early 1900's. Secret passageways, staircases and fascinating architecture will delight you along with the beautiful gardens. Learn the history of the Wilson-Dodge families and the social lives they led entertaining their friends such as the Henry Ford family and the automotive moguls of their time. Walk the estate grounds and you'll see the 3/4 size cottage that was built for their daughter with 3/4 size furniture, and kitchen so she could learn to keep house and entertain as we'll as have fun in her playhouse! The mansion is particularily beautiful at Christmas time, a very popular time to tour the estate. You will also learn of the Wilson-Dodge family's generous philanthropy with the donation of their estate and its acreage for the development of Oakland University, now one of the top universities in Michigan. Located in Rochester, Michigan, the mansion/estate and university are approximately 30 miles North of Detroit.
