This home is one of just a few in the country that has a long and wonderful history. Matilda Dodge (wife of one of the Dodge brothers of auto fame) married a lumber baron and joined the wealth of Dodge and Wilson to create a fabulous old English home and estate. From this estate sprang Oakland University which she inspired and helped to grow to what it is today. The home tour is amazing in detail - each room unique. A must see when visiting Oakland County, Michigan!

Our guide on this 1 1/2 hour tour was knowledgeable and unflappable. He knew so much and delivered it clearly and with good humor. I often feel uncomfortable in such surrounding esp. imagining the inequalities of life imposed by such living. However it is undeniable that the structure and its furnishing and its setting are an experience for today. We were informed that in the tourist season there are 2 additional tours, a Behind the Scenes Tour and a Grounds and Garden Tour. It's our intention to return in spite of it being 2 hours from our home and do these tours also..

I have been here several times for work events, and it's always neat to walk the grounds or tour inside.
