“Great Host”

My husband and I were taking a trip around Michigan for our 28th anniversary and wanted to stay and B&B's. A beautiful house with great old time decor. Christi was such an amazing host. She makes beautiful jewellery which we had in common and spent quite a bit of time discussing. Breakfast was good, we were the only ones staying which was unfortunate because that's the fun of staying in a B&B, meeting other travelers. You have to check out the gift shop.

This is a modest B&B built in the 1880's. Quite remarkable to stay at such a grand home that's been around so long. We arrived 8:30 p.m. - about 5 hours beyond when we'd planned, so we really didn't get the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful setting and at least go down to the water's edge. We were so tired, we just took advantage of being able to have a bag of microwave popcorn for dinner...a handful of nuts from the parlor and a small glass of sherry thanks to the kindness of our host. That was dinner. Looked like a wonderful restaurant was just down the street, but it was so very busy we opted to be satisfied with the meager dinner and went to bed. Had our own bathroom, or rather sink in the bedroom and a commode and shower in the bathroom. The bedroom was warm enough with lots of extra covers, even a space heater was available. We had to be at a meeting in Lexington at 9 a.m. the next day, so the host graciously agreed to provide us breakfast at 7:45 that morning despite the normal breakfast hour to begin at 9. Sliced pares sprinkled with cinnamon was the first course followed by pumpkin pancakes with maple syrup. Very good. We have to say we missed not having someone to talk to during breakfast. We gathered our belongings and were on our way. It was one of the least expensive options for a room that would have been a great value had we been able to take full advantage of what it offered in location and ammenities. Raymond House Inn was not the best luxury B&B we've been at. But for the price, we received a warm welcome and helps with carrying our bags upstairs. A plus and much appreciated. Everything was clean and as always there were beautiful antiques to appreciate and enjoy.

Room Tip: Talk with the Innkeeper and find what you need. We needed to be sure we were warm and quiet. Our r...

This B&B has been around under multiple owners for the best part of four decades. It's a good solid place at a reasonable price. The night we were there the building was in the midst of a bat eradication program over which the owner's mother obsessed. Clearly...TMI.

We arrived by boat with the distance between the harbor and the Raymond House being @ three blocks.

Upon checking in, we asked what time breakfast would be served. 9AM WAS THE ANSWER WITH NO DEVIATIONS. As we needed to get an early start on the water, 9AM was way too late for us!! So...the next morning at 6AM they did provide a very welcome pot of coffee, but that was it. I mean really! Would a platter of bagels or Danish been that difficult?

We stayed two nights at this amazing place. The room that we are in is absolutely cozy and beautiful. The rooms are done so great. You feel so at home here. They have left no detail undone. I would recommend this place to anyone! The breakfast was spectacular! I could not ask for a better place to stay and we cannot wait until we can get back here again!!! They made our honeymoon extra special.

We had a wonderful time staying with Cristy and Jack. We were only there 1 night on a Memorial Day weekend, but enjoyed every part of it. They are both wonderful hosts and were very accommodating to our cycling group. The rooms are very nice. Jack has a huge collection of lighthouse models and they run a quaint gift shop at the back of the house. They are both artistic and my wife bought some wonderful little Christmas decorations. Don't forget a grab a sip of Sherry after dinner for a night cap. The breakfast was delicious (with Amish jams, an egg quiche dish, fruit, coffee, juice, and granola). They were even willing to host our party earlier than the normal time so we could get on the road early. It is just two blocks from the marina and pier plus the historic Port Sanilac lighthouse. Highly recommended!

The location in Port Sanilac is wonderful, also the fact it is a short walk to the harbor. The Inn itself is rather tired, needs updating and TLC. Did not care for bathrooms sinks being outside bathroom, in the room.

The Raymond House is a Victorian B & B in Port Sanilac, just a short walk from Lake Huron. The sitting parlor is gorgeous, with historical pictures of the Raymond family on display. When you are there, you truly feel you've stepped back in time. Thoughtful touches such as a decanter of sherry set out nightly in the front room and plenty of reading material make this property a true "home away from home". The bedrooms are charming and the innkeepers are very friendly and down-to-Earth. All in all, we had a great stay for our second wedding anniversary and bought way too many souvenirs in their lovely gift shop

  • Liked — Decanter of sherry in parlor, period furnishings
  • Disliked — Tap water in our bathroom was slightly funky
