We booked here to prevent a long drive home after volunteering at the Thumbfest in Lexington and were looking forward to a quiet dinner at the hotel. We were very pleased with the room and the gorgeous view of the bridge, but sadly disappointed to find the old dining room gone and replaced with a loud sports type restaurant. We feel this hotel is overpriced for Port Huron. There was construction going on so this may be resolved, but there was no easy way to walk from the hotel to the waterfront.

We wanted to do a weekend away that was closer to home this summer so we sort of randomly chose Port Huron. I wanted a hotel with a river view and this was the only hotel that had it. We requested a room with a view and we had a gorgeous view of the Blue Water Bridge and river. The hotel was completely remodeled and our room was very clean and modern. We got two queen beds for our family of two adults and two kids. The front desk was very gracious in allowing us early check in and late check out. This really helped my family have a full vacation in just two days. Just a few criticisms: The bathrooms don't have fans so it can get both steamy and stinky in there. The bathrooms didn't have a wastebasket ("they are on order") and the only wastebasket in the bedroom was microscopic. They only provided three bath towels though we had told them there were four of us. I called the desk and they brought one within minutes. The jacuzzi was empty of water and we got different stories about why that was - management didn't seem to know. They were painting in the pool area so we didn't go in. No matter: we were out seeing the sights and hitting the beach and coming back to our beautiful room and watching the sunrise in the morning. This is a luxury hotel and I highly recommend!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the water. Be aware that this will also be noisier as the freighters going by sometimes blare their horns in the middle of the night. Also be aware that there is noise until very late in the adjacent restaurant's outdoor patio if you get a river view. If you get a room with no view you will pay less and get less noise from outside. Noise is not an issue if you keep the balcony door closed but we wanted it open.

I have been eagerly awaiting the reopenong of the stories Edison Inn under the control of Hilton. So I made it a point to book a room on opening weekend.

The improvements are noticeable, but there was no wow factor. I did not find this to be a total gutting as promised. More of a move out the old furniture and replace the carpets. There were noticeable remnants from the rooms past, such as the showers, doors, etc. the balconies leave much to he desired. You basically share it with the adjoining room. Which makes for an awkward experience. (To the people staying next to me, no dude that is actually Lake Huron, not lake st. Clair as you so emphatically explained to your wife).
Don't get me wrong this is a nice hotel with a nice bed and furnishings. The problem is the price point. You are mostly paying for the name and the location. However, this is Port Huron, not mackinaw island. The new dining is good, not great and being opening weekend I will not be critical of the service.

All in all, if there was a wedding happening there, I'd stay, but until Port Huron has something more than a view of a bridge to offer. I will not return. If I am payin 200+ for a room..it's going to be someplace that has something to offer.
