Description: In 1936 Beverly and Rubye Osborne were driving west from Oklahoma to California. They had no reason to be joyful. They were middle aged and the Depression had wiped out their savings. On this particular afternoon it seemed that everyone in the state was attempting to escape the famine of the Oklahoma dust bowl. With not much more than their meager belongings and a basket of fried chicken, Beverly Osborne coaxed his Ford pickup across the barren prairie. Suddenly, a bump in the rutted road scattered the chicken and basket. Picking it up, Rubye complained "this is really Chicken in the Rough®." With that chance remark, a fortune was born. Beverly turned his truck around and headed back home. A man who, on instinct, had made a modest fortune and lost it - Beverly reasoned that "fingers were made before forks" and that chicken could be a cheap source of food at a time when incomes were sparse. Beverly learned from his previous business experience and failures that every business must provide customer satisfaction by identifying customers' needs and how to satisfy those needs better than anyone else. Soon, with the money he had received from the sale of his wife's wedding ring, he had an operation serving fried chicken with shoestring potatoes, hot biscuits and honey. That was the delectable meal that started "Fast Food - Fried Chicken Franchising" - long before McDonald's or Kentucky Fried Chicken.

My mom discovered the fabulous chicken noodle soup one time when I was sick. Then, we discovered that their fried pickerel is out of this world! It also has the cutest atmosphere that takes you back in time (not worn out or dirty, just really cute)

It has been years that we have been going to Palm's and just went again, yesterday, and the chicken is still amazingly good! The decor is old, but the vintage style is what makes it a classic. Their fish and chicken are both great and the service was, as always, quick! A nice change of pace, if you aren't looking for a fancy restaurant, but just want a good place to eat, and if you aren't full when you leave...well that's just your fault!

I have been going to this place when I get through Port Huron since 1984, Nice thing about it, the decor hasn't changed one bit. That's actually a positive since they are are sticking to their roots of a 1930's Art Deco / Diner. The food is terrific, the chicken in the rough, their signature meal is loaded with great traditional fried chicken, and great fries. For you (and me) Canadian's try their Ceasar, they put dill pickle spears instead of celery in it. Looks weird, but it works, I have been copying them ever since i tried one. Come hungry, the portions are generous. See you next time I am through PH.

Great fried chicken in an unpretentious bar. Can't vouch for the rest of the menu, but the chicken and beer are first rate. Not to miss if you're unlucky enough to find yourself in Port Huron!

The Krystal Bar has been popular for decades specializing in great broasted chicken. Their 4 piece meal is served with shoestring potatoes and a roll with honey. Their original bar is something to see. It is a throwback to a byegone era. They have draft beer and their prices are reasonable. Their soups, chicken wings, and burgers are also good. Go there and you will not be disappointed.
